True I.R.O.C. specs used during races 80's
Hey I was searching online for the true specs to the camaro that served in the 1980's International Race of Champions. I do not intend to find the specs for factory irocs, i know them already. Anyone know the specs (goodyear tires, titanium intake, etc) of the true irocs used during the races? I know they were all the same for each year, maybe they were different.
Does someone have the specs to at least one of the years?

Theres a few guys here who have orignal Players race cars. If you looked up their threads about their cars, you could find their contact info. I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

I am not sure, but from the pictures I have seen there is no resemblance to the factory version and the race version of the IROC cars.
Although they look like a Camaro, I think the similarities end there. I may be mistaken, but I think there a full roll cage car with a shell that resembles a stock car, kind of like NASCAR. since 1982 or abouts, NASCAR Winston / Busch / Nextel / ARCA series' have little or nothing to do with a "Stock Car" etc.
since were on the subject, Are they still running Firebirds?
Players cars on the other hand, were kind of like the firehawk series here in the states. They used Stock Firebird chasis and put in a roll cage, They were 1LE cars, but I think even the engines were basically a stock engine, with probably tighter tolerances than the run of the mill factory Engine.
I WILL ADMIT I AM NOT AN EXPERT, but from what I ahve seen here on the boards, and talking to people that seems to be the case.

You are correct. They were typical tube-chassis race cars of the day, with enough of the Camaro sheet metal grafted on over the tubing to where it looked "stock" from 100 feet away. Just like most any "stock car".
I don't know offhand what the motor specs were; but, given the tracks and so forth, I'd expect they were similar if not identical to the Winston Cup cars of the day, with a wheelbase and track width appropriate to the Camaro instead of the Monet Carlo they were running in Cup those years. Which would have been 358 CID, single 4-barrel, flat-tappet cam. Jerico 4-speed. F*rd 9" rear.
The intake most certainly wasn't titanium. Probably a Victor. IIRC the tire sponsor was in fact Goodyear. In those days they were still running bias ply tires.
You might be able to get more info directly from IROC at www.irocracing.com maybe even a copy of the spec they would have supplied to race car builders.

Well it certainly wouldn't say Trans Am; that being the trade name of a competing racing series. You can believe that.
As far as I can recall, those cars have never been badged with the mfr name or model; not when they were Porsches, or Camaros, or those stupid Dodge POSs, or Firebirds.

Ummm, yeah...
I know I'm an idiot and a moron, but do a little thought experiment right quick. You've got a V8 motor, 350 CID. Where the hell are you going to put a single overhead cam and have it work the valves on all 8 cylinders? Now granted I'm pretty stupid and all, but I sure can't think of a way that would work.
So I suspect that "SOHC" business must be a typo on somebody's part somewhere.
