L69 w/ Auto?

From what I've gathered from this board, Camaros with the L69 engine option came with a 5 speed transmission. The question I have is, why does my car have the L69 engine, but also have a 700r4 tranny? I know the engine is an L69 because every VIN on every place on my car and every peice of paper that has to do with my car has the "G" engine code. Could this have been done by the dealer?

Could be a dealer swap, could be previous owner... IIRC, the only year the L69 was available with the auto was '84.

Not sure about Camaros, but the 86 L69 T/A I thought about buying had an auto.

You were only limited to L69 with 5-speeds in 1983. 1984 you could get an automatic with an L69.

1984 was the only year to get the L69/auto combo from the factory.
