I have a 1984 t/a L69 with auto tranny. Do you guys think I should mod it, such as better exhaust system and maybe some other things, or leave it stock? Will this car be worth something someday?

Have fun, mod it up, unless you plan on keeping it for 15 years or more. Some don't agree with me but I don't think they will appriciate in value for quite some time (at least another 15 years for a car like yours). This is due to the fact there were almost or more than 2 million 3rd gen F-bodies produced during its 10 year run. Unless you plan on having it for a long time, I say mods are good.

Keep it stock. There are thousands and thousands of sliced up, diced up, beat to crap, hopped up third gens out there. How many nice, clean stock ones are there?? If you wanna spend some $$ on it, clean it up nice and keep it stock. I don't see anything wrong with a few bolt ons though (cat back, chip, ignition etc.)

As for people saying they aren't appreciating, says who??? Around here, they already are!! '82-'84 cars in sweet shape are already commanding 5k and up around here. Its not gonna take 15 years for these cars to be worth something.

An '84 L69 is a very nice car to restore and have. Slice it up, and you have just another third gen...

I also have an 84 T/A. I am a big fan of keeping the cars stock. If it were me id keep it stock, and if I modded id use only bolt-ons (and other "reversable" mods). But thats just me.

Its your car and you should do whatever you want to it. Do whatever makes you happy.

My 84 has a set of ARE wheels, 98 firebird seats, and a set of 85-90 T/A taillights. I kept all the original parts too.

I would do all reversable mods to it. Remember the H.O. was the first real succesful attempt at performance from GM to challenge the Mustang.

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, ASCD SS hood, 16" IROC rims.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, Hurst shifter, dakota digital gauge package, procharger supercharger.

Hey, if it's original, leave it that way as the value will only increase. If you want to alter one then buy one that will not have collector value anyway and modify to your heart's content. I've heard way too many people say, "Gee, I used to have this really nice (GTO, Chevelle SS, Camaro SS, etc.) but I sold it. I sure wish I had kept that car. The road to modification is usually followed by more and more (fueled by some dissatisfaction) resulting in eventual sale for something you think will be better.

Well, thanks for the advice, I think i'll keep it pretty much stock except for maybe a new exhaust system. It's unbelievable how much the old 60's muscle cars have gone up in value. Maybe my car might go up someday as well.

Z's are best summed it up better than I possibly could have. He is absolutely correct. Wanna mod something? Go find a mid '80s Sport Coupe or Firebird, and go crazy. Take a car that would have less interest to a collector, and enjoy it. Or at the very least, as T/A Dan said, do something easily reversible, and keep the OEM parts.

I wanna mod a third gen really bad myself. The approach I am going to take is the one I mentioned...I want to find a mid-'80s, solid baseline coupe with an LG4, and get the "Camaro Performance" kit from GM, with the ZZ4 and all that. There's a car I can mod like crazy and make a solid daily driver. A 345hp Sport Coupe would be a helluva sleeper!!!

And when I wanna cruise, I'll have a stock 350 IROC or my 30th Z to enjoy. Man, I better get a good job when I graduate...I'm gonna have too many cars to support

Amen to that For me, I'm thinking an IROC, my Z, and a hopped up '80s Sport Coupe for a driver will be sufficient for me.

I may love the Z, but to me there is nothing that can compare to a clean, bone stock '88-'90 IROC 350 with t-tops. I would have bought one instead of the Z, but to get the one I really want (e.g. under 40k miles, 350, t-tops, fully documented) would have required traveling all over, and getting a loan. A bank thinking that a 10-12 yr old IROC is sufficient collateral for a sizable loan??? Right...

After college, as soon as I get a condo with a garage, its all about taking that cross country road trip, going down south with a Hemmings and coming home with THE IROC
