Seats used on Thirdgens
I was wondering if any of you history and Restoration guys can answer some questions for me. I am looking to replace the bottom seat cushion on my drivers side PMD seat. What makes PMD special?. It's cause they were in that Knight Rider show. They are basically bucket seats with a PMD badge and open headrests. I was thinking that surely if I was to look then there would be a seat bottom from other third gen seats that would be the same as PMD. I searched ebay on cars for sale and checked out the seats. I saw five type which are PMD, Recaro, a very basic looking seat, a really fancy seat which I think has lumbar support or something and the type shown below. This seat bottom looks the same as on my PMDs. Does anyone else think so?. What are these seats called and are they a common option on thirdgens. I live in Ireland and have only ever seen two other 3gen cars so I don't know. Hopefully some of you guys who visit the junk yards regularly can answer these questions.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Have you tried GM, sometimes they still have seat cushons. And they should get you the correct ones.
There were several styles of seat bottoms, even though they may look the same.
In 1987, for example, there was actually 3 different seats and all three of them used different bottom cushons.
There was the Ultima seat which had the adjustable leg support.
The "Custom" seats looked like the base seat except it had a pouch on the seat back. However the seat bottom looked like the one above.
The Base seat was more flat, and did not have the leg bolster in the front.
I know it does not answer your question directly, but I hope it helps.

Gm don't make seat cushions for PMD any more and there are no reproductions either.
I know it's not possible to match from a picture but I have seen pictures of these seats from front and side angles and they look the same as PMD cushions but I have no way to know for sure without seeing the two together. Just wondering if anyone knows.

There are lots of posts on seats and getting them recovered. I have read most of them. There are two things you can do. Take off the seat covers and rebuild the foam by glueing new foam to it and cutting it to shape with a carving knife. New aftermarket covers can be bought from Hawks and fitted. I rebuilt the foam but not 100% happy with it so I am trying to find other thirdgen seat bottoms the same as the PMD ones but am having no luck at the moment. Nobody seems to know.
