External Script plaques

This is more of a concern for my Deville at present, but because these are shared with virtually all GM cars, and the like...Wondering for some input

A dealer has informed me that the silver plated name plaques, when they have fallen off, need to be bought preassembled ready to apply. Whereas, I want to reapply the originals. I've done some cleaning of both the plaques (mainly) and the location (proving much harder) where they will be remounted. One co-worker suggested applying 3M or other foam stick backing (2 sided) (I have an off-brand already) and the cut the areas not needed or to be seen. This is much easier to suggest then do in the case of Cadillac...where the type is in script form...and long. I've seen various glue/adhesive sprays as well...What's the best angle to approach this? I'm skeptical I can use the foam, though it has worked already on a heavier square plaque, where I used two strips paired together to cover the area

BTW, I need FORMULA stickers for front and rear bumper only...nothing else in that regard

Bite the bullet and get new badges. I say this mainly because while the 3M foam tape works great, you will go mad trying to trim it properly. If you don't trim then you have a stickey surface to trap all kinds of trash. As far as a liquid adhesive; I have not yet seen that performed but I can't imagine it turning out well. The liquid has a tendancy to ooze out from under the badge and run down vertical surfaces (i.e. doors).

The idea of leaving some of the foam had crossed my mind, but I'm likely to try to apply the old ones since I went to the task of removing the old foam. Should work temporarily. It may be funny to note, for a time, I used packing tape (clear) folded in two to hold one plaque on. Stood up well. The other side had too much foam still. In this case, it's horribly noticable though!

Take an outline of the plaque on paper. Redraw the outline a little smaller and use that as a template for the 3M double sided tape.
