This is my third bird, and I have a right and left vent handle beneath my steering wheel. Are those the controls for the vents on the side, or for one of the sets of vents on my 85 TA? I'm just curious.

Does the car have air conditioning?

Those are the "ram vent" controls. Non-A/C cars got vents under the dash that go into the air plenum at the base of the windshield. With the vents open and the car moving air will come out of these vents and help keep the inside of the car cool.

The dash control will direct air for the defroster vents, the center dash vent next to the gauges and the floor vents on the radio pod. This is air that goes through the heater box and is forced by the blower motor. Your car should have block off plates on the outer dash vents since those are only used on A/C cars.
