the 8th digit on the vin is an H suggesting the LG4 305.
Somebody probably just put on a H.O air cleaner

From what I know from the guy I bought it from--The car was completely specially ordered. He wanted something close to a Z28 buy did not want to be paying the extra insurance for a Z28.---Mark

It's got the optional (for Sport Coupe) V8 engine, the same engine that was offered in the base Z28. So he really does have something close to a Z, without the cost of insurance
FWIW the 87 Sport Coupe only came with 2 engine choices
2.8L MPFI V6 (LB8)
5.0L Carb'd V8 (LG4)
