Need Help - 83 Crossfire Camaro

Hello! I have the opportunity to purchase a low mileage, 22,000, low option 1983 Z28 CFI camaro. Near mint, but I will have to sell my 68 6 cyl. driver convertible. Is this a smart move? The 68 is a driver but fun. Is the 83 a wise purchase? Need everyones expertise!! Thanks, Tom

i would keep the 68 and sell one of your other ones IE the jimmy or one of your newer cars.. not the older ones

Since value of a car is usually based on it's performance ability of the day, the 83 Z28 will eventually be worth more than the 68. The 6 cylinder 1st gens aren't worth much due to lack of performance. I personally would sell a daily 68 for the chance to own an 83 CFI Z28. I did own an 82 CFI, had alot of troubles with it, but that was in the mid 80s and GM wasn't sure what the issues were. Today, you can fix the CFI troubles and have a nice low mile 3rd gen with some performance.

68 Camaro convertible with a decent body? You're sitting on a gold mine there. Put an LT1 or something in there and you're looking at $10K easy.

How much is the LT1 and the labor to install it worth? All that to get a car worth $10k? The 83 is close to that if not better already. If the 2 are that close in value, take the 3rd gen and pull the 305 CFI, install a 350 crate motor and have a very clean car with lots of power! Again, I don't see the benefit of a 68 driver, with or without a 6 cyl. A 22k mile 83 has got to be in better shape than a 68 driver!
