Mine was wrecked by a drug head in Dayton and left to rot in the impound lot. I scored it in 1997 for $1200 and then found out it only had 32,000 miles on it. My dad helped me fix it that winter and here it is now with 71,000 miles on it. Yes I drive the wheels off of it in the summer.

i was thinking like $2,500 the car has no rust on floorboards it is very solid, the interior would come with stock radio, stock seats, stock airbag. orignal matching engine, trans, rearend. top is only 2 years old. pretty much a nice car although the damage in the frame.

Saved my current 82 Z28 from being junked. It was left to rot on a farm in Virginia. It sat for 6 years. I am currently replacing most everything. I went all out with GTA rims, 4th gen dash, door panels, and seats, 91 GFX. It now has a 355 with a WC 5-speed and a 3:23 rear. Adding SFC's and a full PST front end kit. Should be on the road in about a month or so. Before:

I've owned 3.
1) Tried to save the first one, a 1983 Camaro with the Iron Duke and a 4 speed. I was going to put the 355 thats in my current Trans Am into it but it caught fire and burned to the ground on the drive home with it. RIP
2) Tried to save another 83 Camaro, that I bought from my brother in law cause it quit running and he was broke and needed a down payment on another car. I wasn't ready for a project car yet but bought it and it sat for a year. When the time came to start on it, I found out that it was going to be easier to just go buy one that was in better shape. So one day just before we were going to move into our first house, I was standing outside and looking at it wondering what I was going to do with the darn thing and a guy came up to the house we were renting and wanted to buy it. I told him if he got it off the property by that friday he could have it. He came and got it later that day and it is being restored. One 83 Berlinetta saved.
3) Bought my present 87 Trans Am from a car sailsman in town, it was his personal driver and he drove it daily. It was going to be completely waisted within a few years if nobody did anything with it, I got it from him for 2 grand. Its almost finished.

My next door neighbor had a bunch of junk cars in his field... I woke up one morning to the sound of a car crusher he had rented.
I own a 85 white/gold T/A
There was an 85 whige/gold Z28 out there -engine/trans
I got dressed and ran over but was about 15 minutes late. It was already about 15 inches tall...
I thought it would be cool to have a maro and T/A that were the same except for the badge on the front. Ah well... maybe I will stumble on another some day.
And he had 4 or 5, 4cylinder camaros that had perfect bodies on them and very little rust and they were crushed as well. Maybe someday Ill find one and save it. I wish I would have gone over there about that Z 1 day earlier though.. would have been cool. Body was perfect on it... Oh well.. too late now.

Junked my 1987 SC, 1988 Iroc (after parting it), and my 1984 Z28 was sold and then stripped by the next owner.

Instead of buying a 10,000 dollar Honda Civic as a winter commuter car (trying to save the 02 LS1 from the ravages of teh rust belt), I decided to buy a thirdgen and restore it.
Picked up a 1992 Formula 350 hardtop with 197,000 original miles on it for $700. Runs good, passed inspection. Just rides like it has square wheels. Car is up in the air now and is in the process of becoming a fun ride.
I figured I would rather spend 2-3K rebuilding a car that I will love to drive than drop 10K on a car I would hate to drive.
Consider this one saved.

Before mine was "Boss", it was crap. Not as bad as some the other cars mentioned here, but the layer of dirt/dust on this car survived the trip from FL to VA (on a car carrier). The gray interior was disgusting. The exterior had it's share of body cancer and a rust spot the size of a grapefruit on the driver door "Formula". The engine..jeez..I got 25% compression out of that bad boy. ZERO oil pressure, rear main seal had previously left the building.
I gutted the interior of the car to find NO rust. Lucky me. (found no build sheet either, just a chasis build) Replaced it with all black cloth seat covers, new molded carpet, console, pretty much everything. Put a reman 355 in..hope the MM5 holds out. Had a local body shop return the outside to better-than-new condition($5000+ body & paint). Fresh black paint, still awaiting it's first wax job.
This is my 1st and only project car, I doubt it was driven very much before i bought it simply due the amount of obvious neglect it had endured. I have documented every step of his rebirth, every penny, and am now trying to track/trace it previous life before it became what it is. And of course, it lives in my garage. Forget not seeing snow, it won't even see light drizzle!

I guess mine is more of a rescue than saving her from salvage.A friend of mine bought her from a neighbor that had bought her for thier teen son.I guess they realized maybe not such a good idea.My parents recently went in a nursing home so I had to sell my Mom's '95 Olds 88.My friends needed a larger car but it was Christmas so we worked out a deal. The Z was down payemt which was fine with me,just have to put it back myself. She's heavily optioned and in pretty decent shape except for the blue passenger door and the dent in the quarter behind the door.

my first 3rd gen was an '84 white w/ blue racing stripes zf (base model, tiny 2.8 with a fancy dealer package). i had just started getting into 3rd gens at the time when i found her. a friend of the family owns a garage/towing service and had some junk cars in his lot. i saw it sitting in that lot and had to have it (not in any sort of good condition, but i just had to have a camaro). i bought the car off of him for $200 and i think i drove it home (cant remember anymore, its been a while). the car had a ton of cancer on it and the motor was in horrible shape. so i got to spackleing up the mess to get it to pass inspection. that passed the first time, but emissions was another story. i dont remeber what exactly was the problem, but it took 12 passes and around $500 or 600 to get it to pass. but it was my first camaro and i loved it that much. she was sent to the junkyard when i finally realized it was in too rough of shape to bring it up to good standards, and too much money for a kid in high school to dump into a car. but i still have the cheezy woodgrain dash cover with the ZF badge on it to this day. just a little momento to remember it by.
