IROC in a sea of BMWs and Lexus :)
IROC in a sea of BMWs and Lexus :)
I keep reading posts about how common these 3rd gens are. In my area... I really don't see that many of these cars around. I drive about 380 miles a week, to/from work and to the beach on the weekeneds...and I can literally count the number of 3rd gens that I see on the road...most of these ruff RS models...and a couple ruff IROCs on the road...I could literally count them on my 2 hands.
With that said..my Bright Red 87 IROC is a sharp ride that looks incredibly in pristine condition...especially considering that it has 252,000 orig miles on the drive train. When my wife takes the IROC to the store or to school...she's constantly hit up by people who like the car... in addition to those that ask if it's for sale. I get a lot of looks from folks driving sports cars (corvette guys) that check my action out and seemingly reminicing. I love it... I love the car! I get a lot of attitude from my car buddies that are into the M3s and such...but not EVERY car has to be a 1/4 mile scorcher to be worthy... Performance, esp the 60 ft is pretty good considering the car only has a tick over 200 hp.
I have begun to plan for the rebuild once (if) it his 300,000 miles. Until then...I have begun to replace little detail parts. i.e front fog light grill, parking brake handle, seat belt holders with new push buttons..., poor man's aluminum IROC rim detailing...and the like. Eventually I will tighten down the rear headliner and replace the front strips on the front bumper...that is starting to show some signs of slag. Either then that...the repairs have been easy do it yourselfers--mostly detail work and airbrush detailing. Incredably the engine is running almost perfrectly...all 8 cyclinders showing even compression and no smoke on startup or high throttle. The car doesn't go thorugh more than a 1/8th quart between oil changes.. THIS IS THE BEST CAR I HAVE HAD... I actually enjoy driving this car in it's own right...and that's saying a lot considering that my wife has a prestine LT1 Trans Am, and I own a 89 TTA, 70 Firebird Formula...
I am going to go detail the car now.. see yah!!!
