I restored a 23 year old piece of history.

Here is a before and after picture. Please note that the center caps on the first pic were not on the car when I purchased it this summer.

Very nice!

It looks like you simply painted the plastic lug nut covers rather than buying new ones. Did you coat them with something to prevent the paint from easily coming off the plastic?

The lugnuts are the original metal ones.

I love the rally (or is that rallye?) rims. They look SO good!

Is that centercap chrome or black?

Thanks for the positive responses everyone.
The cost was fairly inexpensive, the trim rings cost $20, I got the decals for $1 a piece, the center caps (BLACK) were $30, and the paint, steel wool, cleaning supplies were around $12. Total time took about 6 hours give or take an hour which isn't too bad, I am happy with them. Thanks again everyone.

Kinda makes me want to dig out the set I have burried in the garage... or at least it did before I remembered how much fun it was trying to keep them clean. Just a little bit worse then a GTA wheel.

Amen Drew to maintaining GTA rims. A lot of toothbrushes bit the dust, but then again not motoring on wet streets helps.

Thanks,
Did they put aluminum drums on most cars? Maybe my car was outfitted with aluminum parts to reduce weight because of the motor?

I got a set too recently, cleaned them up and threw them on. I don't know the numbers but I think they're kind of rare, most either got iron drums or disks.

Is there a number on the drums, or can I tell with a magnet? Does iron attract a magnet, I cant remember my chemistry right now?

A magnet will stick to iron but not aluminum.

I did the magnet test and they are aluminum, I suppose I should polish them next summer.

I'm not entirely sure what im getting MPG wise. I've been battling an excessive fuel delivery from the injector. I haven't driven the car in a few weeks since the weather as started to turn cold too.

My bird will probably go into hybernation soon. My wife and I are expecting our first baby in December and she is staying home from work now. I'll be driving her car daily now.

I created the sig about a year ago.

Congrats, looks good.

It sometime feels a littl funny looking at something like that and think this thing is 23 years old.

Which in my case I am restoring a 1960 Beetle and feels funny working on a car 2 times older than I am.

But restoring a car is a lot of fun to me. Keep up the work.
