'82-'84 TA front nose question
I was just wondering if the nose from a 1984 TA is the same as a 1982 TA just with the grilles replaced with a solid plastic insert. Also would the rocker panel GFX from an '84 bolt up to an '82 or would I have to make the mounting holes?
Also could you order the aero package on an '83 TA that wasn't a Daytona?

The noses from 82-84 are the same. You can easily swap the grilles. The GFX can be mounted on an 82, but you have to weld the brackets on the rocker panels and drill the required holes. Not hard to do, just a little time consuming trying to make sure everything is lined up perfectly.

The '82-84 bumper covers are the same. Recently discontuned by GM back in early 2004
There are MANY holes that attach the W62 Aero ground effects on '83 Daytona and '84 W62 T/As. There has to be 30+ holes that need to be drilled into the front/rear bumper fascias, fenders, and rear quarters and the metal bracket needs to be attached to the rocker panels as 84L69TA mentioned. It would be something that is not easily reversed if you change your mind.
The first year for the optional ground effects on the T/A was 1984. It was an exclusive on the '83 Daytona. As we all know ground effects became standard in 1985 on the T/A.

sounds a little time consuming...didn't know about the brackets that need to be welded on the rocker panels. I guess it would be eaiser to find an '84 and just swap the front and rear bumpers if I wanted the GFX...better than drilling all the holes and ruining the originals. I kind of like the plastic inserts vs. the grilles in the '82 front nose. I didn't know if they were interchangable or not. I just don't like the idea of having to weld on brackets, and then trying to find them is another story. probably be kind of hard to get at the junkyard.

yah, I was wondering about that. I noticed that there aren't any screw holes in the solid pieces, but you can see them in the original grilles. Didn't know for sure if they screwed in from the back.

Just leave it stock. You don't see many aruond that don't have the ground effects anymore. I thought of doing that myself but now I kinda like the clean look of not having all that stuff on the car.

i vote for leaving it alone too, as a factory regular trans am, these three years look VERY nice and better than 85-up ones factory, IMHO, by far,

The W62 Aero package was standard on 1983 Daytona Pace Car T/A, 1984 Recaro T/A, and 1984 15th Aniversary T/A. It was optional on regular 1984 Trans Am.
