yah, my '82 didn't come with that option but I have the little domes under the dash, just no wiring for it. I was thinking about putting it in though.

My original V6 dash harness had the plugs for the bulbs, but no bulbs and they weren't even put into the places for them. Popped out the hush panels, put bulbs in and boom, underdash lights

just checked my V6 invoice. it was $34.00 in 1986. for two $.34 bulbs.... ludicrus.

seems like somthing they had to work at not offering. companys do that alot.

another good example of this is the "chilled water" feature on refrigerators. i remebr about ohhh.. i'd say 1994 my dad and i were looking at refrigerators in sears and they wanted $100 for the refridgerator to dispense chilled water from the front instead of room temperature water. well we got home with the heaper one and my dad removed the insulated pannel in the back that prevented the water from being chilled instant "chilled water".

that was a very pointless story. but i had fun typing it

thats because when the original purchaser said "no, i don't need that" the mecanic went out there, dropped the hush pannels and pulled the bulbs... he left the plugs loose...

well probably....

RPO TR9 auxillary lighting. From the old White Book; includes headlight warning buzzer, luggage compartment and underhood lights, dome and reading lights.

ohhh... that is more worthy of the 34.00.

but my 2.8 has no underhood lighting. my GTA also has no underhood lighting... both have this option listed on the invoice.... where does one go about getting this "white book"

its for Camaros and is pretty useless for production figures.

RPO TR9 Lamp Group consisted of RPO UTI headlamp warning buzzer, U25 Luggage compartment lamp, U27 center console lamb on Firebirds, U29 underdash courtesy lamps, and underhood lamp on Camaros.

The option was basically a carry over from the 1st and 2nd-gen F-bodies. Remember, in those days customers could CHOOSE which options they wanted or could afford.

All of the Lamp Group parts are easily added to a car without the option. Everything is plug and play. The power feed plugs are all there on cars without the option.

right on. this board now has a welath of information on a 34.00 option that almost evyryone has.

but atleast i know what it is now.... my v6 has alot of interior options and creature comforts... but a v6 and no a/c or power options. just upgraded seats and such. it's like the 'formula' of 2.8s

My 87 Iroc-z, which according to the window sticker, retailed for 20K, doesn't have that option. Must be rare

My $21k IROC-Z has it. It's not on the windowsticker, but it is on the build sheet. The windowsticker shows "auxillary lighting" as part of the 1SC option package though.

Ya it was probably part of the 1SC package, but not in the 1SB package like I have. Probably could not order it seperately either.

Starting around 1987 GM got this great idea to start lumping options together rather than being separate options. This basically took away the unique or "personalized" car that you could buy before. This is why nowdays you see one size fits all $34,000 GTO's and $17,000 Sunfires and people buying $12,000 Kias rather than GM products.

Would a 32,000 GTO and 15,000 Sunfire be a better deal??? I have read everything from $1500 to $2000 of each car is health care and retirement for GM employees

My '83 Z28 has the TR9 light group also. How many of your cars does the headlight buzzer/chime still work?I had a '88 Grand Waggoneer that the chime worked but sometimes it sounded like it was dying.Iv'e noticed my Mom's '95 Olds 88 Royale had every kind of interior and trunk light but nothing under the hood, same for Bonnevilles and Lesabres - guess GM figures these owners never open the hoods at night. Also curious that the rear compartment light is manually switched and not tied into the door jam switches or some type of jam switch in the hatch area. This way you don't forget and leave it on.Or did they change this after '83?My '95 Jimmy at least gives you a choice.

The seatbelt chime was broke on my '84 Trans Am. I opened up the chime generator and found that the sold contacts on the potentiometer were broken. I resoldered it with high temp solder and its been fine ever since.

The rear trunk light is tied into direct power on '82-88 cars. It plugs into the power feed junction block above the driver's side kick panel. Starting in 1989 the trunk light was connected through the hatch pull down motor and it would light up when you opened the hatch.

And you have no idea how many time I have left that STUPID light on in the hatch area because of it.

I think I'll either install a jam switch in the hatch area or route the feed to the rest of the interior lights. That way i don't leave it on.Thankyou Dens71TA for the repair idea on the chime.
