Notice to all concerning production figures...
Chevrolet did keep records of individual options, BUT no records of "option combinations".
Let's use an example to make my point, a 1986 Camaro Sport Coupe. How many were produced with t-tops and air conditioning, let's say. There were 99,608 Sport Coupes produced. Also, 91,089 t-tops and 167,602 A/C units produced. What Chevrolet does not list is how many Sport Coupes that have both. That would be an "option combination".
Sadly, I would like to know how many 1987 Z28 convertibles were produced because I know they are very rare and I own one, but no such records exist. That's because:
1) The IROC-Z was an option on the Z28 and
2) The convertible was also an option.
That makes it an option combination.
So please do not ask how many 1989 IROC-Z's were made with gray leather interior, cruise control and a bright blue exterior because there are no recorded production numbers. In fact, the more options you throw into the mix, the more it complicates the issue. However, I do believe that Pontiac kept records of certain option combinations, such as a 1992 GTA with a white exterior (this is Dirk's car!). Thanks.

Ditto for Pontiac, Willie..... There are no records for option combinations..... only individual option installations. It is possible to find out color numbers for both interior and exterior usage, but again..... not interior/exterior combinations.
To decipher combinations, one would have to have access to all the invoices for each or Firebird, Formula, Trans Am or GTA Trans Am built in a certain model year, and Pontiac certainly isn't very forthcoming with that information..... and I don't look for them to be in the future, either. I've already broached this topic with them..... to no avail.

Why is GM guarding this info as if its a major military secret? OR do you think their record keeping is suspect ??

I would bet the reason behind it is purely monetary. GM is run by beancounters and they're not going to spend man hours reseaching the past. Especially for a car the accountants have no love for.

Willie - if i can be of help... i remeber the figure of approx. 750 units being built for 87 Iroc convertibles... i dont remeber if this was from a book, or from ASC document(that is who made them for a while)... I wish i had one of the GOOD converts.. my friend has an 89 Formula 350 convertible (done by ASC) and yes it is for real.. i have seen they made about 10 of those. Hopr this helped some.
