Exterior mirror differences

Obviously there's a difference between the power and manual mirrors. Other than that, you probably thought all thirdgen outside mirrors were the same.

I have manual mirrors on my '83, but the pass. side mirror glass is cracked. I bought another mirror at a swapmeet and took the glass out... the bracketry is completely different. I don't know the year of the car this mirror was from (but it was a thirdgen because all he had was thirdgen parts for sale).

I mentioned it on another board and a guy said he had a mirror I could have. I had him take a picture of it for me & it is different than either of the first two styles. I'm not sure if it was from a Camaro or Firebird, but he said it was off an '85.

Does anyone know which cars had which style mirrors????

Deadbird.org lists quite a few, actually:

No idea beyond that, sorry.

Yea, ran into that myself. I bought a 'new' to me power mirror motor and took the bracket with it. Well, bracket didnt fit my mirror. Came to the conclusion GM made some different mirrors with different screw locations. Weird.

I dont know what year the car I took the motor off of, but my car is an 86 and looks like the last picture posted above.

believe it or not but you can buy just the glass from autozone. All you have to do is pick out all of your original glass, which is just held in place by glue. It took me all of two minutes, it comes out in big pieces. Then pull off the backing of the new glass and stick it on. They sell two different sizes one for power and one for manual.

I think cosmetically they were all the same from 82-92, matter of fact I know they were...

However I too have found that there have been differences through the years. Interstingly enough I took a set of power mirrors from a 1985 T/A and swapped the mechs into my 87. Unfortunately to do so on the power unit I had to break the mirrors to get to the screws. Some of the later ones I have noticed that you can get to the screws without breaking the lens's
