I looked through the entire rear axle code listing from 1982 thru 1992 and cannot find one that starts with a "3". The closest I could find was a listing for a 1984 Camaro. It is a 6JH, which is a 3.23 open ratio. BTW, make sure the "C" is your code is not actually a "G". "G" signifies Chevrolet Gear & Axle Plant, which it should be (I presume).

When I was under the car looking at the stamped #'s on the rear it seems like that they didnt stamp the houseing all the way. So the # 3 thats waht it looks like. So your ar prolly right in it being a 6 tho..
Thanks again I really appericate it!!!!!

Kat,
You're right about the stamping being very weak. I have never seen a rear axle tube that was stamped anything but just scratching the surface. You've probably already tried this, but I've found that if you take 400 grit sandpaper and lightly go over the stamping, it brings out some of the detail. Then take a flashlight and shine it almost parallel (not directly) onto the axle tube, it highlights the stamping. I should have mentioned this before. Sorry about that.
Assuming your speedo is correct, you can verify rear axle ratio. If you would like to do this, let me know.
