I could never find the numbers on this engine/tranny combo..I know it's hard to find if not rare because I spent half a year finding one.

Once again, GM did not keep records (that we know of) of engine/transmission combos (or colour) so
it is impossible to say. 12,620 had the LB9.
Now most cars sold are automatics but it's hard to say what percentage. you can say it's more rare then a 350 car though.

I would tend to disagree about the rarity of the TPI305/5speed combo vs TPI305/automatic. With the GTAs and IROCs from 1987 on, you either could have a 350/auto coupes or 305/5speed T-tops for the virtually the same price (when I was looking at that time). The most expensive was the 350/automatic T-tops, which were hard to find and later only on certain models and certain yers.

When I bought my car, the most common setup I saw at the dealerships were the 305TPI/5speed, followed by the 350/automatic. The rarest was the 305TPI/automatic.

You are so very very wrong about 87 and up..It was 87 and DOWN that you found alot of the 5 speed TPI's. I assure you, as many others will, a 5.0 TPI with an auto is about as rare as a teal RS. I wish it were not true for the 88-90 IROC's because I would have loved to find one alot faster than I did. I have never met another person with a TPI 5 speed in an 88-90 IROC. thanks for the help though..

They must have all been shipped to Canada. They were definitely the most common setup when I was the dealerships back in the late 80s and early 90s. Finding the 350 though, though a lot were imported to Canada. Might be a regional thing.

um...Yarnboy...there were no TPI 5spd cars before 87. 87 was the first year for that
combo.

Pino, everything I've ever seen and read says that 85-86 you can only get TPI with an automatic. Starting in 87, you could get TPI with a 5-speed. Its even there in the thirdgen section at http://www.f-body.org/tech/

I own an '89 T/A with the tpi 305 and a 5-speed. It took me a long time to find it. Most of the cars that I looked at were automatic. I did'nt see a single tpi 5-speed until I found this car. The other 5-speeds? Sixes or tbi.

The thing you all are forgetting is , that GM allways released late year models that would have new options that will be availble for the next model year , . thats why you can find a 85 TA with the aero wing , they technacly where not availble until 86 , but they are out there , so the books make say only availble in 87 but i can garante some got out late in 86 ,
