car restoration

I have a 1984 TA l69. I'm looking to do some restoration to it including the interior, engine rebuilds, exhaust mods, etc. The exterior is in great shape, but I dont know exactly what to ask for in terms of an engine rebuild. I want great performance (0-60 in six seconds or less), and also something that's going to be a daily driver. Also I've seen cyberdyne digital gauges, I like how they look, do they have a complete six gauge kit or individual gauges for sale for my dash? Please help me where to start to all this, for I'm a little new to the auto thing. Thanks very much. '84 Ta h.o t-5

A friend of mine is currently rebuilding his 84 T/A-it was a L69 car but the motor locked up after 200,000+ miles.
So now we are gonna put in a zz4 Crate motor somewhere in hte neighborhood of 450 H.P. and he is currently changing his interior over to black-(was light grey almost white)
he also installed a roll cage and subframe connectors it's a t-top car

Welcome 84taho,
When I bought my car 10 years ago, I wanted to know the same thing as you, where to start, but there were no message boards back then so I learned the hard (expensive) way. So I am going to give you the best advice that I have learned over the years.
First, based on what you have described, you are looking to rebuild/modify your car not restore. Restoring means to bring it back the exact or close to the way it left the factory.
Okay, with that in mind, you have to ask yourself what do you want to do with the car.
Do you want to drag race? Autocross? Show car? retain value (lol)?
Each requires a different setup for optimum performance or different requirements.
Next, I would work on the car using a systems approach. You have suspension, brakes, interior, engine, exterior are some "systems". Pick one and work on one system at a time. For example, if you choose "suspension", do your whole suspension, bushings all around, rear lower control arms, panhard bar, subframe connectors, shocks/struts and strut tower brace. When your done, then move to "brakes" or whatever.
Finally have patience. Nothing will work exactly the way you want to, Yes you will make mistakes that will cost you, and you will curse, bleed and sweat, but damn, owning a third gen is awesome and fun, and 10 years later, it still isn't finished, it never will be.
As for the Cyberdyne dash. No they don't make it for the Trans Am, they do make it for the camaro. Yes, you could buy the individual gauges, but you would have to make a custom dash to mount them. Search the "electronics" forum for more info on hooking up electrical gauges.
Good Luck
