My buddy has a 89 IrocZ convertable. It is black. It doesn't seem to be repainted. It has all the graphics like the iroc on the rocker panels and tuned port stickers but it has not lower stripes and no Iroc-Z on the door. I don't know if it is rare but I heard some California carz were made like that if ya wanted em that way. (just heard) It also has cromed stock wheels, but I know those aren't stock. They were sent off to be chromed. Any info is great.

Check the RPO codes for DX3 (?). On '88-'90 IROCs, there was a stripe-delete option for a small credit. If his car hasn't been repainted, its likely it is a DX3 car...hard to say how many convertibles there are with the option.

It is not too hard to remove the decals either.

Mine had stripe delete. No clue how rare it is though.

Ok this is odd...

Checking the Camaro White Book, it appears that 88,144 '89 Camaros had the RPO DX3. Apparently GM considers all RS's to have RPO DX3. So let's do some math....

A total of 110,739 '89 Camaros were produced. 110,739 - 88,144 = 22,595 Camaros that supposedly WOULD have stripes. 24,007 IROCs were produced in '89, so there's a max of 22,595 IROCs that would have stripes. Follow so far?

So by my figures, that leaves 1,412 '89 Camaros (non RS) that would NOT have stripes. To me, that sounds about right. Now, I just took an Accounting exam an hour ago and am VERY sick of numbers, but I think I got this right

Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Jason, thats a very good explanation. I had always wondered about that DX3 option, it really looked inflated to me.
