From: previously OKINAWA JAPAN,georgia, now new england

Car: 1989 IROC--1989 T/A

Engine: 5.7 TPI in both

Transmission: W/C T-5 in both

Axle/Gears: B/W 3.27 in both

auto dimming mirror..... Willie enter please

what does the auto mirror do? I was under the impression that it (rotated) itself down so the lights behind you didn't blind you, not having to flip the little ****. Now i have read my WHITE BOOK and it says "RPO CODE DD8,AUTOMATICALLY DIMMED HEADLIGHTS WHEN ANOTHER CAR APPROACHED." lastly is 86-87 the only 2 years this option was available? Oh and do you or other s have the GM P/N for it. thnx alot THE SHAGGY IROC

You are 100 percent correct.

This statement should read, "...when another car approaches from the rear."

The mirror itself has two sensors, one points towards the front and the other towards the rear. The front senses the amount of light (or lack of) outside. T@he rear senses the same, but when an approaching vehicles gets closer, this sensor detects a brightening of the light outside caused by the oncoming vehicle's headlamps. When the difference in the sensor values exceeds the threshold (determined by the variable **** located on the mirror), the internal motor runs and turns the mirror to "night" mode.

Yes, it was only available for two years on the Camaro. I do not know availability on the Firebird. And sorry I can't help with the part number. Try calling your local Chevy parts department.
