I paid 23K for a fully, I mean spare no option 86 TA in 86. Oe w/out leather and a few othe unimportant options went for 19K. I liked the TPI look although I had no idea what it was nor did I care. The car looked cool and it peeled out that's all I cared about at the time. It was stolen 7 month later.
A fully loaded Iroc would be in that neighborhood, although chevy is always cheaper than a pontiac as a rule.
Also in NY the same car would go for a few grand more than let's say NJ or PA.

I can't answer for the 86, but in 87, my IROC was over $21k with every option available except rear window louvers.

I forgot to the other question as well.
I'll tell you this much, 20 grand was a good chunk of change in the mid/late 80s and we financed cars back than as oppossed to todays leasing. I mean you can get a fully loaded F-body today for around 30K, give or take.
If you wanna compare, taking into account: inflation, cost of living and basically the value of a dollar plus the price of todays performance cars in simmular category(jap twinn-turbos),
the new top-of-the-line ram-air F-bodies are much more affordable today than the Irocs/TAs of my teen years.
Last summer I went to the dealers auction to get a 4th gen but when I saw the near showroom condition, recently re-painted(original maroon) 90 Formula w/5speed, I couln't resist, especially that I got it for $2,000. Since I never got to fully enjoy my 86TA, I feel like a kid again. God bless the lack of popularity(for now) of 3rd gens!
Talk about bang for the buck
