is this a good deal on an IROC?

hey all,
I've found an 88 IROC with the LO3 engine and 5 speed. The car was involvled in an accident. It needs a new hood, windsheild, drivers side fender, raditor, altanator, front bumper cover, rad support, headlight assembly and other small miscalanous parts. The T-5 was rebiult before the accident and a new clutch, reciepts tottaling about 1800 bucks. it doesnt have t-tops or any power accesssiories. The motor has 140k on it. Inside is very clean. It also has a new stainless steal exhuaust. Is this car worth getting? Iwant an iroc and the price is cheap. About 500 bucks. Do yall think its worth it or should I keep lookin and saving my money? I want a 5 speed car and they seem tough to find. How much do you think the car is worth? I find a complete 88 IROC front end in excellent shape for 700 bucks.
need advice.
thanx

I say go for it. I did it with my convertible, only the entire left side of my car was gone. I bought it for $1000 and put 1000 into it.

You can find the front clip in pieces, it would be much cheaper. I pieced mine for 200. Look in the classifieds, maybe you can get a deal there.

If you have access and knowledge about what needs done, do it. If you don't know what you're doing it'll be nothing but a heartache and headache.

Avoid it like the plague. Its not a good base for anything cept maybe a full out race car. The engines trash, the T5 isn't good for any kind of performance, the body work required to get the car perfect would be a nightmare, etc etc etc... There are THOUSANDS of Irocs out there. Most are in better shape then the one you described for under $5,000. There are enough really nice ones out there to warrant holding out for a perfect one and saving your money till you find it.

I agree with drew, there could be a lot of hidden problems that might come up later, and its not that hard to find an IROC in pretty good shape, just keep looking and you'll find one...and don't give up till you find the one you want. It took some time for me, but I did find it and am very happy I didn't settle for anything less.

Pick it up for parts if anything. It has to have over $500 worth in parts, like the rims alone. Donor cars mostly complete like that are hard to find seeing how abused most are.

The price I paid was my own body work and motor work. Pros cost way too much considering the age of the car.

T-5 offers no performance but is a boat-load of fun to drive. The automatics are boring to drive. Why would you try to make a 13 year old car perfect if you drive it everyday? Just straighten the car as best as you can and give it the hand. And every car has hidden problems that come up later. Cars, especially ones like these, are money pits.
