I was just curious in reading some of the posts concerning the 230hp, 205hp and G92 topics. I was wondering what the difference is between the early 3.45 rear on the 5.0L 5spds and the later 3.42? Is there any performance changes, advantages, or specialties with either one?

I think the 3.45 gears came in the 9-bolt rear, whereas the 3.42 gears came in the 10-bolt rear. Don't know why they changed from the 9-bolt to the 10-bolt, probably a cost/production issue.

 

u are right about the differences being 9 bolt vs 10 bolt. The reason for a 9 bolt is becouse it is much more stronger than a 10 bolt.

 

The 9 bolt is stronger but the 10 bolt is american made and cheap.
