1992 Camaro Steering Wheel Info Needed
How many different kinds of steering wheels were used in 1992? I have two, one is absolutely plain. This wheel was taken off a '92 RS. The other appears to have some sort of texture on it but does not have stitching, which to me indicates that it is not leather. This wheel supposedly came off a '92 Z28.
Is it possible that there are THREE types of steering wheels made in '92 for two styles of Camaros? This doesn't make sense to me. If this can be verified, one must be an "option". I don't recall any optional steering wheels in third gen Camaros. Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

I have the leather wrap wheel in mine. It seems that when I ordered a new shifter ****(5-spd) that there were 3 different choices. Just working from memory, but it seems correct.

It would seem that in '92 there would have been an airbag equipped steering wheel, a non-air bag equipped and the "upgraded" leather wrapped, but 3 shift *****?

ALL 90-92 wheels were airbag wheels with CAMARO embossed on the vinyl airbag cover. The wheels themselves are different however. Mine is a Leather stitch-wrapped wheel, while the ones Willie is referring to are vinyl covered. I believe there is a smooth vinyl wheel, and a textured wheel, making 3 wheels available. The difference in the vinyl wheels may be manufacturers, while the leather wheel was the only optional wheel.

The RS's I have seen have the textured unwrapped wheel. The Z's, of course had the leather wheel. Unfortunatley, my leather is peeling off and underneath is completly smooth. That makes three, leather, smooth, and textured. Don't know if they sold the untextured one though.

What I've found is that the texture wears off with time. The steering wheel in my S10, and my V6 bird are textured in the areas that don't get rubbed, the other areas are glossy smooth. Same goes with the vinyl shift *****. As they're used the texture wears off. My guess is that you have two wheels that wear available from the factory, a leather wrapped and a non leather wrapped. The smooth vinyl wheel has probably just been used more.
