Convertible owners enter...............
Last year I bought a new top for my vert. It was too cheap to pass up, and with the difficulty and inflated prices for parts specific to these cars, who knows what it would cost if I waited until I needed it (My top isn't in too rough of shape yet).
Anyway, I will need at least one piece of weatherstripping (A 4" piece was missing when I bought the car). All the vette owners have ample choices of where to buy theirs, however, I got stonewalled everywhere I called. This was a year ago, so I haven't called on it lately and was wondering if any of you have had any luck finding a supplier that carried reproduction weatherstripping specific to these cars. I suppose I could cob something in, but I don't want it to look sloppy (it isn't noticeable to the normal observer, but it bugs the sheet out of me).
Anyone?
Thanks.

What part of the top's weatherstrip are you looking for? I just put a new top on last spring and got all new weatherstrip from the dealer. I will look to see if I have any of the old stuff around.
Check classic industries, they have quite a bit of oem convetible stuff.

Im interested in hearing about this too - please post if you find something, I need to upgrade my weather stripping too.
BTW, how much did you have to part with for a new top, if you don't mind?
Also, anyone know of a good place in the IL/IN area to install a new top?
Mine is really wearing out, I need one within this year.
Thanks,

Ken

Speak with Hank at Paradise Motors. He has the original ASC-produced GM tops for the Camaros and Firebirds and probably has the weatherstripping too. His number is 813 920-7544.

Another place for convertible tops is (please don't hate me) JC Whitney. I live about 5 miles from their dist. center and I ordered one from them. One of my buddies that worked there got me a discount. I painted my car dark green with tan leather so I ordered a tan top. I know GM made tan tops, but I don't know if they fit the older convertibles. I think they are just for 90-92??? If you do order a top from whitney, I think it took about 6 weeks. I paid $ 119 for it. It was the top grade.

Yeah, please post any good finds for cheap weatherstripping. Mine's kinda weak in a few areas. It doesn't bother me that much, the radio covers the wind noise even at low volume. It doesn't even get cold in frigid temps as long as i keep the temp bar halfway over (heat off no less)
But, if i can get replacements cheap i'll do it, just for the sake of making my car not seem like a poor example of build quality.

As far as I know, Classic Ind. does not have a supply of repro or original weatherstripping for these cars. I will try a couple of other places this week.
I just checked my Classic Industries Firebird catalog and they show the weatherstripping for at least the side windows for the convertible. I haven't looked into it very much, but chances are they have all of the convertible weatherstripping. The other suggested I would make is GM.

Drew,
I have looked extensively through the Classic Ind. catalog (Camaro) and even spoke with a sales rep when ordering parts for my 68, and they told me they do not carry it. But if you found something, give me some part no's and I will look into it.
Thanks.

We are just poor step-children as far as CI is concerned. They have seals listed for First and 4th Gen convertibles only. We don't even appear on their radar screens. I'm posting some links for new tops and am still looking for other resources for the seals.

G7968 91-92 RH (outer) Convertible Rear 29.66ea
G7969 91-92 LH (outer) Convertible Rear 29.66ea
The same parts are listed in the 2000 catalog, I just don't feel like going in the other room to find it.
Sure seems to me those are convertible weatherstripping parts... and they're original GM. Either Classic Industries doesn't have them listed in the Camaro catalog (they're the same, I don't know why they wouldn't) or you overlooked it. I don't have my CI Camaro catalog here or I'd check it out.
Personally I think Classic Industries is one of the few companies that supply a majority of our parts. You can get almost all of it from GM for about the same prices but its nice of CI to put together a catalog so we know whats available.

Drew, your right. Same page in F2000 catalog. Listed on Page 279 in the Camaro C2000 catalog. Listed under the heading "Front door window glass run weatherstrip". Trunk weather stripping also available K3021B $45.75 on page 222 or 282. OK, now you don't have to walk to the other room, (unless of course you need the excercise).
I checked the 2000 catalog the night before, I'd check the camaro catalog but I don't know if its at my parents house or here as the library got divided up between me and my dad when I moved out.

Funny, I am right in the middle of replacing my top on my 89 and replacing all the weather stripping and padding as well. I bought all new weatherstripping that ataches to the frame and spent just over $200 for all of it. Thats the top to tonuea cover weather stripping on the no. 5 bow, the piece that runs verticle for the window seal(both sides), and the piece that runs horizontal at the top of the window for the window seal(both sides). I could of gone and taken a ride over to YearOne, but there parts prices are just a bit to high compared to where I got them from. I bought my weatherstripping from a place called Parts Distributor Inc, in Lawrenceville, Ga. they are part of the Bill Heard "empire". All parts are GM.
Here's an example:
YearOne- $82.95 EA. for the top to door glass seal, this is the horizontal piece. I paid $23.06 from the Parts Distributor.
Another example:
YearOne- $119.00 for the top to rear body seal, I paid $63.55 for this piece.
And you know that damn expensive header piece at the top of the winshield that YearOne sells for $259.00?....$143.23 from PDI....
Just thought I would share that with you guys....if interested here's the number:

I thought my vert was factory. I found out it was aftermarket from dealer and sold new! Anyways try www.camaroheaven.com you pay the shipping and more than likely they will have what gaskets you need. Im pretty sure that gasket from dealer was 100 bucks! I made my own out of rubber pipe insulation, the good stuff not foam, I used 3m spray glue(dont get glue on paint!) looks good and cost total of 8 bucks/ 1.5 hours labor. Oh have you done sub-frame connectors yet? Im approaching 300-350 horse and dont want to twist body if that could happen! I have a steadfast top with no headliner. I had top replace 2 years ago for 500 bucks! The dude sucked, the side started lifting 3 months later but then a piece of furniture fell off the back of this guys pick-up bounced in front of me and then put a small hole on pass side of top. 1200 from his insurance company for new top that I just pocketed. lol anyways good luck
