To start with I agree there needs to be a place on this board dedicated to conv. I just purchased my 88 Iroc conv, and just found this section for the questions. I have browsed the site for a while but just officially joined. I stumbled upon the H/R section today and heres where the conv tops questions are posted. I would have expected these question to be in the exterior section rather that the resto section. (Just my opinion thou).

Now heres my question, I have read about some people using a polish on their back window, Does this polish help, or remove any cloudiness, or just scratches. I have a good top, some scratches, starting to cloud. What is the polish and where do I get it.

Thanks.

Bruce

I've used motorcycle faceshield polish. It really only takes out the scratches and not the cloudiness. A good shop can sew in a new plastic window for a fee.
Congrats and welcome to the board.

Bad news: The cloudiness is the first stage of uv damage to the plastic. It isn't reversible. There is a solution that doesn't involve replacing the top however. Have an Auto Upholstery shop cut out tha old window and sew in a new one. I've had this done to two convertibles now including my 90 RS 'vert. I'm still on my original top which is 11 years old now. It has some sag to it, (poofs a lil at freeway speeds) but the rear window which was replaced some 7 years ago or so is still in great shape. Some members have posted that their local shop wouldn't replace the rear window. Just keep looking around until you find a good shop. It is a one day job and ran me a little over $100 as I recall. Good luck, Lon.

If you decide to get your window only replaced, make SURE you can see some of the shops work before you hand them your car.
I had my rear window replaced right after I bought the car, by a shop that supposedly had replaced and fixed convertibles "since 1954"..
They did the s#!++!est job I have ever seen done by so-called professionals. They are the only reason I now have to replace my whole top..

So, just beware.
