Hey,
I noticed one of your posts on the Camaroz28.com board about your White Iroc's decal position on the door. Could you enlighten me as to what position the emblems and stickers are in on what year cars?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Can you be a little more specific? Are you talking strictly of the door decals?

Wow Chris, that's such a simple question that has a rather complex answer. Okay, I'll give it a shot. Let's just do Z28/IROC-Z's for now. I'll try to outline the exterior differences by year starting in 1982.

1982 - 1984
The first year, 1982, is the only year the rear Z28 emblem did not have a Chevrolet logo with it. Striping color combinations varied by year, with the most number of colors being 1982 and 1983. The "5.0 Liter H.O." decals/emblems were in upper/lower case lettering.

1985 - 1986 Z28
Z28 badging in a multitude of colors and hues. Identical except the high mounted center brake light in 1986. The rockers and wheels were either silver or gold with charcoal added in 1986. The "5.0 LITER H.O." decals/emblems were in upper case lettering. The "TUNED PORT INJECTION" decals/emblems were silver, gold or black.

1987 Z28
Z28 badging in silver, gold, red and blue. One year only striping. Again, rockers and wheels in silver, gold or charcoal. The "TUNED PORT INJECTION" decals/emblems were in silver, gold or black.

1991 - 1992 Z28
Identical with no striping with the Heritage Appearance Package being the exception. No "TUNED PORT INJECTION" decals on the rockers but retained on the rear bumper from previous years (applies to the 5.7 emblem also).

1985 - 1987 IROC-Z
Z28 badging on rockers and rear panels in a multitude of colors including silver, gold and red. Striping in silver/black and gold/black with one exception -- 1985 had an optional red/black striping and red IROC-Z door decals on black IROC-Z's and standard on silver IROC-Z's (the only year silver IROC-Z's were produced). Wheels in silver (gray?) and gold only. The IROC-Z door decal was placed in front of the door and available in silver and gold and red in 1985. The "TUNED PORT INJECTION" decals/emblems were in silver, gold or black )same as the 5.7 TPI decal/emblems in 1987).

1988 - 1990 IROC-Z
IROC-Z badging in silver, gold and red. Striping available in black/silver, black/gold, black/red and gray/yellow. Door decals in silver, gold and red. The "TUNED PORT INJECTION" decals/emblems in silver, gold, black or red.

I'm positive I've missed some, so please correct/add as you see fit. Thanks.

Willie

Also if you look at the nose from a 1982-84 and one from an 85 and up you will see that the 82-84 style has recessed parking lamps and a slotted ground effects piece. the later models had flush parking lamps and a solid ground effects piece.

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package with 64cc aluminum heads, dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, ASCD SS hood, 16" IROC rims.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, Hurst shifter, dakota digital gauge package, procharger supercharger.

Car: 87 IROC-Z, 82 Pace Car
Additions to the exterior: (not just IROC/Z28)

IROC specific - 85-87, the IROC Z badging was located at the front of the door, and 88-90 IROC's had it at the back of the doors.

Not IROC Specific - 82-84 ground effects were different than 85-90. 91-92 ground effects changed to include the duct "cut-out"

82-84 coupes had the 3 slits in the front clip, 85-87 also had the slits, but were smaller

all 86 cars had the rear window mounted brake light, 87 cars moved the brake light to the rear spoiler unless the car didn't have a spoiler, then it was window mounted.

88 sport coupes look like an earlier Z28 (with the silver ground effects) but with the RS hood and "Camaro" badging. 89-90 sport coupes were named "RS" and came in solid monochromatic color.
