WS7 ?

On a '82 T/A. What is a WS7 "Special Performance Package" ? It cost $247 back then, what ever it was.

WS7 was the same as WS6 minus the rear disk brakes. Pontiac greatly underestimated the demand for WS6 in 82 so they ran out of disk brake differentials before the end of the model year. Their solution was to offer all the other WS6 goodies with a drum brake differential and call it WS7.

'82 T-Top, yes, what Mark said. Consider it a blessing because the disk brakes were terrible. If you have a WS7 that means your car was probably made in the summer of '82. Mine was early August. '82 & '83 are confussing for options. Early '82's did not for some reason come with a "turbo" hood. There were two different four speeds. Alot of this info has come out on this board and were glad to have you along. Welcome.

If you don't know what WS6 is, move you settings back aways (100 days or so). It's been covered several times on this forum.

Thanks guys, for the welcome on board and your answers. I have found this board very useful as I just changed my rear to a '94 with disc's due to my posi breaking. Yes, my car did have drums and has a turbo hood. ( see pics in Rides section ) The car was shipped from factory on 07-28-82 and cost $14,630.71 I have seen WS6 many times but was not sure what WS7 was, but you both have answered that for me now. Whilst getting car converted from LHD to RHD I found the factory works sheet under the drivers seat. Still good after 9 years and later obtained the dealers purchase order showing all options and prices for when the car was sold.
Thanks to all and happy motoring.

rumor has it that there was only about a 10-day overlap between the top of the line engine (LU5) and the top of the line performance package (WS6). the rest of the trans am's either one of those 2 options but not both together, or had the carbureted V8 instead (LG4) or the performance package with drums on the rear (WS7).
if anyone can verify this, it'd be helpful
thanks

Kizz, yes that's true. The TBI engine came on stream late and the WS6 left early and there was only a 10 or so day period where both were on line together.

OK, so we're pretty sure there was a 10 day overlap for LU5 and WS6. But the real question is, how long was the whole production year? That is what really determines the rarity of the LU5 WS6 combo. I mean let's say the production year was 11 days long. Then LU5/WS6 is not rare at all, as it would be on MOST cars. Then let's say the production year was a full 365 days. If so, then the 10 day overlap is truly rare. As I mentioned in another thread, I have never seen a 1982 LU5 Recaro WITHOUT WS6, and the VINs i've seen range from the very beginning to the very end, so I think Recaros got special treatment that year, it seems.
