Ws6 and basemodel firebirds
Ok...my friend went out and snagged himself a 89 firebird (no trans am or formula stuff on it)...and its got the performance suspetion tag on it..he was bragging and stuff about how his car could out handle mine (a 89 firebird formula)...i figured he had gotten a formula that someone swapped the hood off of...but when he lifted it he only had the 6 banger...now my question is...is it possible for a base model firebird to have ws6?....ive never seen it before..but i thought i would ask the pros here..
thanks for your help

If I remember correctly, almost all late '80s baseline Firebirds have that tag on the dash. What does it mean?? Nada...my friend's old '87 2.8 'Bird had it too, and her's was stripped. Other than the fact that your Formula has more weight over the front and may understeer more, you should certainly be able to out-handle a baseline Firebird.

Even if his car does have the WS6 suspension package, which I dont think it does, it really wont make a difference.
Remember, all the components are 10+ years old and not in very good condition. I have a 91 GTA with the coveted WS6 suspension, and my car does not exactly handle great...pretty poor to be honest with you. My stock LCA's are bent and my rubber bushings are almost non-existent now. I am sure his suspension looks a lot like mine does.
I really dont think his car will be "riding the rails" anytime too soon. Don't let him talk big!

Yes, just because it has the on the dash does not mean it has WS6. Check the RPO codes and I'll bet you anything he doesn't have it...
