87 RS camaro? come on willie

ok so i was at work sitting in the bosses office shootin the sh*t. and we are talking about my cars new paintjob and he mentions that he had an 87RS from california. and he shows me the pic. i say NO thats an 89 and then he says why in the hell did i buy it in 87 then. he was the original owner in 87 he says they made 2000 87 RSs and they were all numbered. i disagreed then realizing he is my boss i let him be right and decided to come and ask you guys.

ok so its a 1987 RS CAMARO and they were only alloted in southern california, and were only in red, black, or white.
and it was either an auto or stick with a 6cyl.

i just want to see if he is blowing smoke up my ..
thanks

AFAIK they are not numbered, and I dont know anything about a 2000 limit... but yea there are 87 RS's. Other than it being an 87, I think he's blowing smoke up your tailpipe.

Seems to me that there was something about color availability too, but Im not sure so Ill let someone else fill you in. They were only available with a V6 at first too, you can thank me for fixing that

your boss isn't blowing smoke, he almost correct, the '87 and '88 RS's were available in Florida, Texas as well as the whole state of California. they were only available as V-6's and were only available in the exterior colors of White, Red or Black. the RS became the base Camaro in '89. the difference between the '87 and 88 models compared to the '89 was that the '87-88 used the IROC/Z28 3-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel and the headlight pockets were black. also, the '89 RS's only came with the silver 15x7 wheel with silver cap. the color keyed wheels were available after the first of the calender year 1989. production figures were, 6618 for '87 and 7038 for '88. If anyone wants any info on an '87 RS, I have a Motor Trend road test of an '87 RS 5 speed. The 2,000 figure came from the fact that this was the amount estimated originally, as stated in the article (if memory serves me correctly...)
