From the factory....I think they look pretty cool with a satin finish. The red, blue, and white, ect, cars have them blacked out. Just wondering what was factory on the Black cars?

My '87 IROC came with flat black i think. It was definitely not glossy, because everytime i waxed them i took a little off.
In '89 I had a slight accident that damaged the front fascia and i had it painted body color. Bright blue metallic.

Anyway, I didn't answer you question. The black cars were the same as the others. You would have thought they would have left them body color but they didn't.

My car was repainted before I bought it. The buckets are glossy like the rest of the car. I was looking at some pictures of black IROCs and noticed the flatter paint on one.

Thanks!

Good question... never thought about that one before... mine's been repainted, so it's glossy now...

I know that in '86 the Z/28s and IROCs were satin black, and the sport coupes were glossy black.

As far as I'm aware all IROCs and Z/28s from '82-'92 were satin black. '87 sport coupes were glossy silver. '82-'85 and '88 sport coupes along with '89+ RSs were body color. Can't remember off the top of my head on the '87 and '88 RS, the '87 LT, or any of the Berlinettas.

Just for arguements' sake, my 86 SC had the headlight buckets and the 3 grill vent things painted silver to match the rocker panel color on the car. This was the stock treatment.

Jim, did you purchase the car new or used?

Used, but it's had no paint work other than the Krylon that the kid before me assulted it with. My father owns a body shop, and with a little practice you can pick out paint work pretty easily, especially with exposed seams like those.

Thanks for the help guys....)IM going to paint them satin when the car is repainted. After seeing them done that way, I really like the look.
