I have 1982 camaro with the v-8 and 4-speed. I have been told that this is a one year only transmission. Would this make this car rare at all or just another camaro. In other words would this car be worth keeping because of rarity. Charcoal Gray without T-tops, Air conditioning, aluminum five star wheels, rear defogger about only options it has.

I thought all the th700R4 transmissions were 4 speed and those aren't rare at all.

He's talking about the 4 speed manual, not automatic.

In '82, both trannys were one year only. The TH200 was the 3 speed automatic, and the Borg Warner T10 (??) was the 4 speed.

In '83 the T5 and TH700R4 debuted.

Its a rare tranny, but like the others that go with these cars, they are less than adequate. I thought the 4 was available until like 84, but the 5 sold much better than the 4.

Drew, you seem to give a little hope that the 82 will be desireable someday. I doubt any or our cars will be desireable in the long term. They made too many, 1.5 million or so. The only ones that may be desireable are the convertibles with clean titles...so I'm out

I can't predict the future... but for right now our cars aren't worth much of anything... around here the value is starting to go up a bit.

Well yeah, its almost summer time, so open air rides are comming back and these are great rides for the summer. So are other sports cars as most areas don't have to worry about snow for a little bit.

They're worth something, many of the greatest car sites and some of the biggest clubs are just for our cars. These cars probably have the most loyal and greatest following going.

JERSRJR, They came with either a t-10 or a Saginaw. Both were installed and from what i can tell, the late runs got the Saginaw like maybe they ran out of T-10's. I can't find the documentation but from what i remember the 4-speed was also avilible in '83. You had a choice of three tranmissions.

They are weak. Don't do a ton of mods before concidering something stronger. Put the 4-speed in a box and keep it history purpose. I had just over 300 hp on my Saginaw and the factory rear blew first. Decided not to use the Saginaw after that repair turned into a new engine and rear.

If you ever decide to change to a t-5 or something else, the cross member and driveshaft will be valuable to anyone looking to install a a TM350 in place of a 200/700 auto.

The good news for you is a super t-10 bolts right in when your ready.

One really good thing is the '82's are light and for some reason (gear set????) the four speeds are fun to drive and feel fast compared to a five speed.

Don't forget to greese your z-bar.

For the last time, for ANYONE who says our cars will never have any value....

Ask anyone who owned a 1st gen Camaro new if they thought their car would have collector value one day...I guarantee they will look at the ground and say "You know, I wish I had held onto that car..."

I know my dad does, my uncle, my grandfather, my neighbor......

These cars WILL be worth something someday, as supply dries up. The fact that people continue to argue this never ceases to amaze me. I'll bet you in another 10 years I'll be arguing this on a 4th gen board as well, pointing out how the 3rd gens are escalating in value....

Kinda a few days behind this post but anyway
From what ive read on the tech specs and 82 had a muncie 4??? I highly doubt it. I also doubt it was a super T-10. Your right its most likely and probably a cheap saginaw.
Sag's were used in production from 72 on up in cars, trucks could be eqquiped with HD muncie 3's but they were moslty equiped with saginaws. I think the T10's were phased out in the mid/early 70's along with the rest of the good 4spds. Yes borg warner did make the 5 speeds in the 80's but were talking 4spds.

Now as far as our car being worth something.
Yes they will be. especialy the first 3rd gen's if there not modded to hell. "some reason colectors want original everthing"
Junk yards are full of 3rd gen camaros and firbirds and thats always a good sign for collectors cause thier going to be scrapped soon making less on the street.

Btw Just 10min after i posted this the new summit came in the mail and all the transmition info is in it, in thier how 2 section
