SPI label location on '92 convertables

I got to see a '92 Z28 Heritage convertable at a local carshow.First one I've seen. The young man that owned it really didn't know what he had.I looked for the SPI label in the console, but no luck....and the trunk had been modified for a speaker box....any other places to look?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks,Ed and Drew. But I think the original owner tore out the rear locking compartment
putting in the speaker box.....I guess finding the build sheet would be the next step.

Thanks again-

Whoa nelly, 92 Z28 convertibles did not come with locking rear compartments. They came with a molded piece in it's place so Chevy could say they increased trunk cubic feet space for 92. I've read that in at least 3 different places and every 92 I have seen has the same molded piece mine has.
Gregg, did you get the VIN number by chance?
I'd love to add this one to my registry.
By the way, my sticker was not in my center console glove box. I've heard some are located behind one of the rear seat speaker sail panels! Why, I don't know, kinda hard for the service tech to find it. I have not ever confirmed this position though. Sure that 92 isn't a 91 or did someone else install the locking compartment Drew?

Rob-
Thanks for the info on the rear compartment.I
am very uneducated when it comes to convertables.

But I did know this was a very special car the moment I saw it.The guy that owns it did not know what he has and does not have access
to the internet.I will contact him tomorrow and get the VIN.Chris Strasburg has already contacted me on running the VIN through the proper channels to extract the SPI codes.

I'll let you know on what we find on the car.

And would anyone guess on how many '92 Z28
Heritage Edition Convertables were made?

Mines a 91, thought it was common knowledge.

It's the license plate on my 92 Z28 convt.
1 OF 1254
With over 100 registered (it's slow going finding them 1 at a time on the internet) it's 5 to 1 Autos over 5speeds.

Damn, you learn somethin new everyday, i thought all thirdgen vert trunks were like mine w/o the locking glove box thing. I'm really glad i decided to stick my amp on top of that molded felt bull**** rather than cut a slot in it so i could mount my amp in the quarter panel, i didn't realize it was a 92 vert specific piece.

Anyone have any pics of the different trunk piece, never seen one, curious what it looks like, my storage compartment sucks up so much space.

Oh, also in 92 only, the cover for the spare tire is also the molded felt to increase trunk space a few cubic millimeters. The trunk in the convertible is so useless why did Chevy even bother? Though my felt pieces are lighter than the plastic ones
Gregg,
Any word on that VIN?
tks
