I need help deciding?

I know this is a camaro site and we all root for camaro's. I might get hurt for asking this too. I'm thinkin about buying a 91 RS w/ a 5-sp, that has a 79 350 in it. I am torn btween that and an 89 mustang 5.0. NOw honest opinions. Stock how much HP do each put out and is the Camaro the better deal, and faster in the long run?? Overall, also, such *** cornering, handling, acceleration. Thanks

Well, I would say it depends if the 350 is stock or not. Late '70's engines were very weak. However, the engine has a lot of potential. Small block Chevy's probably produce more bang for the buck than any other engine. The Camaro with the 5-speed would give you an excellent base to build on. The Camaro's braking and handling are far superior to the Mustang.

There are far too many factors that go into this to give you any significant opinion, just go buy whatever you like. Chances are the Mustang is faster or at least it could be since it has a much more developed aftermarket.

I disagree that the Mustang has a more developed aftermarket. While you may be able to find more parts made specifically for the Mustang than the Camaro, the amount of parts for small block Chevy engines is staggering. In fact, a lot of the aftermarket suspension and brake components for the Mustang are probably only going to get you to the same level as a stock third gen car. I think any way you look at it the thirdgen cars are by far the better platform to build on.

Last time I checked you could buy parts to put a Mustang thru the 1/4 mile alot faster and cheaper than a thirdgen... Its really simple when you think about it... GM has never really cared all that much about making the fbody perform because its not their primary sports car... However Ford doesn't have anything else. Ford developed more performance parts for the Mustang than GM will ever have available for the thirdgen. I don't know about you, but I see a lot of mustangs going really fast, and I only know of a couple thirdgens going really fast... so are you going to tell me that mustang drivers have a lot more money than thirdgen drivers?
