convertible top hinges

The hinges are chewing holes in the sail area of the top. This happens when ever I put the top down. It's from the inside to the out. Does anyone have this problem? and what did you do? I hate the idea of trying to pad the inside with duct tape or whatever. Is this just a ajustment?

Mine wears holes on either side, just over driver and pass side head, down towards the window. It's done it through two tops now. I think some kinda padding inside would help. My 71 Impala convertible has padding in that area. For some reason, my 92 Z28 convt does not do this. The inside of the top is lined and perhaps this protects the outer top?

Mine wore a small hole on the drivers side only. I had it repaired when I had a new rear window sewn in many years ago. I think they used an iron on patch. It has held up since then with no problems.

Everyone have fun figuring out who is who

Anyway, my top doesn't rub up against anything and I seem to be the odd man out on this. I like the padding idea myself as a fix to the problem.

It maybe b/c your top is out of whack or your tonneau cover needs slight adjustment.

It could be worse GM made about 3200 of them that year!!! the top works fine so I guess it's duct tape time.
