1987 Birds....which models had the 4 barrel V8??
I understand that in 1987 you could get 3 different types of V8 engines: the TPI 305/350, the TBI V8, and the 4 barrel V8.
Which models got the 4 barrel?
Was it an option all around, or was it ever a standard equipment engine?

TBI wasn't till 88. Every 305 that wasn't tuned port was carbed. It was used in base models, sport coupes, LT's, Z28's, and Irocs, as well as base firebirds, formula's, and trans AM's
The 8th digit in the vin will tell you what engine it has:
F = V8 5.0 tuned-port injection LB9
H = V8 5.0 4bbl LG4
S = V6 2.8 multi-port fuel injection LB8
8 = V8 5.7 tuned-port injection L98
My service books also show VIN "G" V8 5.0 4bbl, but the Thirdgen VIN decoder won't accept the "G" code as valid, so I assume it wasn't available? Hope that helps ya out.

It probably shows that the "G" code L69 was built because it was availible in the Monte Carlos until 88'.

Well, my sources for the "G" code were my Helms '87 Camaro service manual, and my GM master RPO code book (covers up to 1988). I learned a long time ago though that just because its in the book, doesn't mean it was always so.
Thanks guys.
