The VIN is wrong; it's missing its country of origin on the front, which is of course a 1 for the L (Van Nuys) plant. It does not have the HO motor, it has H for the engine digit which is the LG4.
I don't think that GFX package is stock, but I could be mistaken. It looks to me like a plain-Jane car with a body kit whose owner is looking for a sucker.

Good points but if the GFX are aftermarket then what about his bumper cover? If he just tagged on a GFX you would still see the the old horizontal pattern on the front instead of the smooth sytle. How can you tell what is aftermarket and what is not ? Is this an aftermarket pkg?
I still have alot to learn but what I have seen so far is the early 3rd gens are wasting away and the later models get all the glory! Remember your roots folks !

The Vin is 16 digits and not 17. I have been scanning for early model, limited edition T/A's on the net for some time and have run into bogus Vins too many times

Don't kid yourself. The VIN is 17 digits. The 1st digit is the country of origin, which since it was built in the Van Nuys plant, should be a 1. G is the 2nd digit, indicating it's a GM product. They don't invent a special VIN structure just for cars that sit in garages all their life.
Believe what you want; the ad is bogus. The VIN is for a run-of-the-mill LG4 car. That car would not have been worth $14k even when 40k miles would have been a normal mileage for its age; I bought my 83 HO Z28 (17 digit VIN, 1st character 1, 8th character 7, plant L) in 1985 with 40k miles for about $9k.
It's your money, spend it how you want. IMHO that buyer of that car will be the seller's "find of the decade". He's asking a good $8k, maybe more, above what the car is really worth, hoping a sucker will come along and fall for his line.

Well maybe I was wrong about that, it looked like an aftermarket kit I was looking at years ago for my 84, I thought the factory setup did not have as much of a curve in the parts as that, and the aftermarket kit I know was more curved than the factory setup.
The bumper is the same as one without gfx, and the 2 grilles are removed and replaced with flat pieces. The gfx just attach over the top of the factory bumpers and body.
He's right about the vin tho, its 17 digits and its missing the first. Its also not a HO like the ad says twice.

I never wanted to buy this car, I was just looking for authentication and I thank you for the replies. You are right, if you place a 1 in the front it checks out on thirdgens decoder but it wont run on carfax:
_________________________________________
Enter your VIN:
The VIN you supplied, "1G2AW87H7DL219727", is invalid.
A VIN must be exactly 17 characters long;
the letters "I", "O", or "Q" never appear.

Carfax must be hosed, its a crappy service that I have proved to be bogus time and time again.
Thanks anyway,
Don

Those look to be factory ground effects from the '84 Aero package. It was not available in '83 to my knowledge.

I could have sworn in '83 the aero package WAS available. I was looking for a restoration project a year ago and found a complete, running, bone-stock appearing '83 T/A LG4/auto for $750. It was black and gold with the gold accent wheels...was it a Recaro T/A??

From what the guy says in his ad it would seem as though the aero package came off a daytona pacecar. Also note he states 14,000 original MILES, he doesn't even imply that any of the other hardware is original. Has anyone tried emailing the seller to see what the deal is?

Just confirmed through a very reliable source that 83 GFX were indeed possible on a regular T/A, and the RPO is W62. So this car seems totally legitimate. The only problem with its description is the "HIGH OUTPUT" engine.. the VIN shows the LG4, which at 150-155HP was by no means "high output". even the LU5 fuelie was pretty anemic at 175HP. This guy must have been thinking of the L69, but this car's VIN does not show an L69.

Hi all, I run the 83 Daytona 500 TA Registry and website (http://members.tripod.com/PaceCar_83/) and to my knowledge the aero package in 83 was ONLY available on the pacecar. In 84 it became an option. It does appear to be a factory GFX set though. This particular GFX set was only available on the 83 Pacecar and in 84, in 85 the design changed.
