IS this FACTORY?>>> HELP!!

Hey all..... I sold my 91 Z and am looking for a 4th gen... Anyway, this is one for sale locally.. It's black, lady driven, BUT heres the thing that I wonder about... It has high miles, thats because she drives 40 miles everyday to work.. BUT, she said the drivers side door was replaced because of an accident.. BUT it has a salvaged tittle?? OH, and heres the thing that baffles me.. It has the HIGH rise spoiler and ground effects... I didn't think you could get that stuff factory on a Z?? T-tops have never been out of it etc....... BUT, last time she was asking about 12000 and I think it has over 130000 miles...... so blah.... anyway, can you help me out??

What year is it? the spoiler and the GFX don't matter much, could have been a dealer option, etc... regardless unless its an LS1 thats way too much money. 50-70k mile 93-96 Z28's are selling for $7-9,000 here right now.

BTW this isn't a really good place to post your question, since it is a thirdgen board.

I have not kept up on the current values of 4th gen cars, but there are alot of warning signs there. The salvage title and a prior accident would be enough for me to continue searching elsewhere. Furthermore, as you mentioned, that car has alot of miles on it. IMO, you should keep looking for a better car.

A salvage title does not "always" spell disaster it just means that the car at one point in it's life was owned and sold by an insurance company.

Sometimes the cost of "dealer" parts or repair exceeds the NADA adjusted value of the car and it is considered totaled.

My 85 Bird had a salvage title due to a shelled transmission. New GM tranny, GM installed, exceeded the book value. With the money paid out on this car a rebuilt tranny was installed, motor rebuilt, new radiator, new A/C system, and it was one of the best cars I have owned. BUT the title was salvage.

In this case definitely have a mechanic and/or body shop check the car for you before you buy it. Have the VIN number entered into a NADA value guide and input the mileage. Take the values given (loan/trade-in/retail) and deduct 25% for a salvage title.

If at any point you get an uneasy feeling about your transaction....... walk away.... as stated above. It's not worth it. There's always a sweet deal around the corner.

they were only available with v-6's in 1996 and 1997

A salvage title doesn't always mean that you're going to have problems, but it does mean that you're going to get porked when you sell it unless you find a sucker. Generally a car with a salvage title sells for 50% to 60% what the same car with a clean title would fetch. $12k for 130k miles and a salvage title. No thanks. There are a million 4th gens out there. I'm sure you can do much, much better.
