86 IROC Question about Emblems???
On the GFX near the door the emblems read Z28, not IROC-Z like all the other IROC'S I have seen. Was this emblem present on 85 and 86 Iroc's. It is also on the rear bumper as well.

From 1985 thru 1987, the IROC-Z was an option package on the Z28. That's why you'll see the Z28 badging on these cars. In 1988, the Z28 was dropped and replaced with the IROC-Z. So from 1988 thru 1990, the IROC-Z badging was used on the exterior. GM was so cheap that they never tooled an IROC-Z dash badge. Instead, the prior Z28 badging was used.

The GFX badging on 85-87 Iroc's all will state Z28, and below the badge will have a badge indicating the engine. In 88 the Z28 badge changed to an IROCZ badge. The reason for the change was that GM opted to discontinue the Z28, and build only Iroc's from 88-90. In 91 the Z28 returned and the badges changed to Z28 again.

You said that GM was cheap and didn't have IROC-Z dashpad emblems, however, I have one that says IROC-Z

What he means is that in 85-87 the dash said "Z28 IROC-Z", when it was an option for the Z28. In 88-90 when there was only an IROC-Z and no Z28, and they changed the ext. emblems to IROC-Z with no sign of the actual word Z28 on the car. Thats when they should have put just IROC-Z on the int. because it wasn't a Z28 option anymore, it was standard, although the Z in IROC-Z stands for Z28.
IMO, they shouldn't have decided to do that and should have just kept it an option for a Z28, but so many were buying IROC-Z28's instead of the Z28's it might have been stupid to keep making both.

1985 - 1987
The emblem on Z28's differed by which engine came in the car>>>
Z28 / LG4 = "Z28" emblem
Z28 / LB9 = "Z28 / TUNED PORT INJECTION" emblem
All IROC-Z's regardless of engine got the "Z28 / IROC-Z" emblem
1988 - 1990
All IROC-Z's regardless of engine got the "Z28 / IROC-Z" emblem. These are the cars that should have received an "IROC-Z" emblem (with no Z28 reference), but GM was again very cheap and was never done.

Maybe it was just to keep the word Z28 somewhere on the car.
