Possible 91 1LE Camaro
Possible 91 1LE Camaro
I have a friend that has a 91 Camaro and we are trying to figure out if it has the 1LE package. Its a Z28 with a 350, we know the front brakes are different than stock because we had trouble getting the right ones, but the rear are drums. He remembers the previous owner saying something about having trouble finding the right struts. It has Limited Edition badges on the door handles. It has a/c and leather seats.
i dont think 1le ever came with rear drums, because
i has the same breaks as the vette so it must have discs,
but any way to make sure just check the RPO codes
if u have 1LE code than u have one of
175 1LE B2L (350 TPI)
Z28's were built in 1991.

the 1le was 4 wheel disks.. so If the car has rear drums.. It is not an 1le.. unless if it was owned by more then one person and the PO swaped out the rear for drums.. WHich i dont see why they would...
Somebody probably put the PBR calipers on the front of the car. Just look at the RPO sticker in the rear compartment or center console. It will tell you what the car originally came with.

A/C delete was the trigger for the 1LE. In 91, for a brief period, rear disc was not available. Don't know if they would actually send a 1LE out with rear drum.

Ok. But, for a 1LE, G92 was a must. His rear drum brakes are like mine. I would venture to say his build date is 2/91.

There are some well optioned Formulas with the 1LE & AC... Also The 1st 92 Firebird is a Yellow Formula 1LE with Power Windows.
IIRC from other threads in 1991 there was some sort of shortage of REar Disk axels, so they installed Aluminum drum brakes instead... Could be an oddity...
Chances of this: 1:100,000

What about the supposed 1LE Z28's that there have bene pictures of floating around with leather interiors, AC, power options?
How many of these have been actually verified?
Seems maybe there was something we dont know other than all 1LE are no AC, no option etc.(excluding B4C for the moment)
All TTA are 1LE but are power everything and AC.(using as an example)
I also know of the same 92 Formula John is talking about from the Pontiac display at the TA Nats. Again, another oddity.
Interesting

I think for the most part the rule of thumb is that the 1LE cars were bare optioned cars...
But there are plenty of examples where cars are pretty well loaded, and they have the 1LE option. There was an 88 or 89 T/A not too long ago on e-bay that had many options, including 1LE, T-tops, and A/C, it was a Canadian exported car, but he had all the right documentation...

1LE cars were bare optioned from the factory. I've seen AC, radios, fog lights, etc on 1LE cars; as it was installed by the dealer.
But yah, regardless, you'd have 1LE on the RPO sticker. If not, then it's not. Really easy!

It would have been easier to take a Loaded out car and install the 1LE brakes...
I remember hearing a few years back is it might have been possible to delete all the options, get the performance axel, and then it would trigger 1LE. Once 1Le was triggered they would start heaping the options back on, in some cases if done in the right order you could re-load up the car.
