how many of you.......

hate it when you see a particularly rare Camaro in the junkyard. The IROC may not be rare but it is stilla special adition. OR what about a 350 car? I hate seeing a wrecked 91-92 car. They are the best looking and hate to see them wrecked. Any way just venting. Ever wonder why some cars go to the junkyard? I see some that just look like they might have needed a motor or something stupid like that. People that junk a thirdgen for that reason shouldn't own one.

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames,
T-56 almost ready to go in, TPI swap coming up

Wifes new car:

95Z28, AT, leather, T-tops bone stock for now.

future mods:
header to tailpipe replacement and a cold air intake. Then I am just going to leave it alone

About two years ago, I was walking into a yard up here to find parts for our "toy" fiero. I looked over at the crusher just in time to see what looked like an 84 or so white t/a get it.

I observed a moment of silence for it

Yea its sad. But then this one junk yard in my area will not crush any fbody. The guy told me that they made that mistake in the early 80's crushing 67-74's at the time. now they will let them rust before they crush them. They have a row of 60 3rd gens.

85 Camaro, 355/400 "drag car" in moth ***** 13.1@ 101mph on its last season run.
Plans: Possibly add N20 for next season.
82 Firebird, 305/350 currently moth balled.
Current plans: Rebuild 305 with flat tops instead of the dished "cups" for pistons or slightly built 327 with the 58cc heads from the LG4, Upgrade the 2:73 to 3:73 or 3:42 and replace the turbo 350 with 700r4.

Give me directions to that yard!!!! It is awfully depressing to see what were once beautiful, strong cars spend their final days in a junk yard- especially when someone out there would have most likely been honored to give these cars a new life. Thirdgens are a good solid, steel, car; and would have been able to outlast any vehicle of today if they hadn't been condemmed to a bone yard!

Here is a happy story.

About a year ago my father and I spotted an 84 15th anniv. T/A, we went back and checked it out (on a sunday, the yard was closed, but the 15th was near a driveway w/ no fence, so we parked our 25th next to it, they looked great together )

About 5 or 6 months ago the car disappeared from the yard, I assumed the worst. Until in mid June I was driving near my grandmas house (not very far from the junkyard) and spotted that very same 15th in someones driveway for sale! The car wasnt in very good shape and had since lost its original 15th interior, but still I was very happy to see it got a new lease on life! I hope someone picked it up to restore it. (It was too rough and too expensive for me to think about, If it was nice it would have followed me home )

Their was also a 3rd gen Formula and a 2nd gen T/A (and a 65 mustang)in the driveway/garage. Obviously a home w/ good taste.

And yes it makes me sad to see F-bodies in the junkyard.

actually now that I think about it my 83 was one of thpose storys. The guy was moving to Florida and everyone that looked at the car didn't want it. i called on the last day he was going to wait. The next day he was calling the junkyard to take it away if I didn't buy it. Although it didn't matter to me then I just wanted the car.

In a junkyard by my house there is an '82 Pace car with no body damage and hardly an damage to the interior, but the fools left the windows down and parked under a tree.Looks like it had been there a while.

In the last 6 months I have seen...

1) '80 Trans Am 301 turbo pace car
2) 350 TPI IROC totally sideswiped
3) '82 CFI Z28 complete...who knows what happened to it
4) '89 RS 305 with only 98k miles, and appeared to run fine...
5) COUNTLESS 6 poppers and LG4s

I hate seeing them in junkyards too. What really hurts is selling them brand new (I just sold an '02 Firehawk a few hours ago), and then wondering how these loving owners either cast them off early to an uncaring owner, or beat on them from the start. Some people have no heart to be able to trash a car the way they do...

I saw an 82 Camaro Pacecar w/ 800 miles on it last weekend at a car show. It still had the original window sticker taped to the window. It was like new. The owner also had his 68(could be wrong) pace car vert. and 93 z28 pace cars at the show too.

I feel for you guys, but its all part of owning them. You can't drive a thirdgen and expect it to last forever. I've sent one thirdgen to the junkyard, wasn't much I could do about it, some pothead kid rear ended me and destroyed the car. Isn't much save to one of these cars when they get hit hard. I've gone to the other extreme and saved a 91 V6 bird that no one wanted from certain doom. If you see a car that shouldn't be in the yard make an offer on it, or at least ask. I've gotten prices on a couple cars that sat in the yard complete, a few monthes ago a friend of mine bought a car we found sitting in the mud.

If I ever saw anything I felt was rare or special I would make an offer on it. I hate seeing old ones like 2nd gens too. I hate to think that there are idiots out there wrecking the new ones. All they are is lowering the number of ones for future generations. Its all real sad.
