91 Camaro RS or .....

Hey all, I have been looking for Z28's and IROC-Z's since June. Its tough gettin one on tight budget. All I'm lookin for is a V8 3rd Gen Camaro. I haven't been able to find any, either they're overpriced or junk. So I need help I'm getting pretty desperate, I need a car of my own (I've been drivin dad's ol car).
I want to buy a car within this month, I don't think I can wait any longer. Most recently I found a 91 Camaro RS Auto, its around $4k. I was thinkin of getting it, but it only has 170 HP, which I think is terrible. It's also TBI, I prefer TPI. I love Chevy and I love the Camaro, I find the Camaro has the best looks anywhere. I always wanted a Camaro as my first car. But I also need Power and 170 to me sounds under par.
Just to show you how desperate I am, I also found a 88 Mustang LX manual. Yeah it's Ford, unfortunately. The car is selling for around $2400. But I don't know if I should get it, I like the Camaro the best. The only reason I'm looking into it is because it has more Power than the RS. But the RS has the looks, Hot.
I also plan on suping up the car I buy. And buying the LX, I'll have more money to burn. But with the RS, I have a lot less to burn. It's almost a stalemate.
So I guess my question is this, should I buy the 88 Mustang LX manual or 91 Camaro RS auto? Or should I still keep lookin? Remember it's 5 months and counting, I can't be searching for a car forever...
Any advice, facts, opinions, etc, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

i was once in your position, kinda...
when i was 16, my 92 camaro was just falling apart everywhere, the clutch went out, the AC was messed up, loved to die on me everywhere..so i sold it and was carless for 2 months and wound up getting a firebird i thought was baddazz, and not long after i found a GTA in the same price range and in better condition.
so please do the smart thing and wait till you find that car. Another place you ought to try searching is www.autotrader.com
i recently found a camaro on there i am in the process of purchasing

Car: 91 Camaro RS Update: Sold Camaro, now own a "91" Corvette.
Engine: Corvette L98 TPI

I found my 91 RS Camaro in the Autotrader magazine. It's was a very clean car with low mileage 67,000. I had a mustang before and I like my camaro a whole lot better! The Mustang is kinda small and it looks too short and stumpy. They only look good when they're lowered and have 17" rims on them. My camaro looks great the way it is so clean and sleek with the factory 16" Z28 rims. I have the tbi engine with mods I've done in my signature. It doesn't feel like 170 hp anymore. I would get the TPI engine because it came stock with I think 235 hp. Don't waste your money on a Mustang even if it is fast who cares when it looks ugly.

i too, can vouch for Autotrader.com I found the car of my dreams on there, too bad i don't have the money yet to buy it. But it was everything i'm looking for, in every possible way. Down to the color of the interior... ah well...

As for stock TPI having 235 hp, that depends.

If it is the 305, no, it will only have about 210. If it is the 350, it depends on the year. For 91 or 92, it will actually be between 240 and 245.

You're right in believing the RS is underpowered at 170 hp. But in my case, I bought the car for it's looks. It sounds like your looking for more muscle so I'd say wait it out and find that Z. More hp to play with and to whip on mustangs too.
