1987 IROC convertible value
1987 IROC convertible value
I've got one sitting in garage that is in excellent shape with less than 15,000 miles on the clock. The color is a fiery orangish red. No dings, no scratches. Power everything. The car is flawless. Has anybody ever had one appraised or sold one recently in this good of shape. Any info on the cars value would be great. I'm not looking to sell, just interested what it is worth.

I am a banker and with collector cars we sometimes refer to the "old Cars Price Guide" You can purchase it in the magazine section of most book stores. They rate vehicle condition based on a 1-6 scale. Without going into much detail, 1-Car never driver just for show 2-As perfect as a one. but may be driven about 800 miles a year 3-Very Good well kept used car 4-Good 5-Need Restoration 6-Good for parts only. Values as of Dec 2001 edition.
1. $20,000 2. $14,000 3.$8000 4. $4000 5. $2400 6.$800
Based on what you have said, a solid number 2 rating would be reasonable. It is hard to say what an appraiser would show. The appraisers I've worked with say they have a harder time appraising the not quite classics and are more conseravtive with those values.

I have an 87 IROC with 8500 miles. When I tried insuring it, all appraisers said that it was a market issue and not really an appraisal since mine is a TTop car. They said that the convertible is easily appraised as it was more rare and harder to find in excellent condition. That said, I was told that a convertible was worth at least $15k last year. This was based on the description of my car with low miles if it were a convertible. I would assume, that yours would be similar to this or better, this year.
