Question
I wounder if its possible to find out who owned my car i the Usa before it came to Sweden. Do your goverment keep records about who owned a car???
Well, you would need to find the state of origin. I dont think the Federal government keeps these records, but the individual states typically do. Privacy laws will stand in your way though. Best thing I could tell you, run the VIN through carfax, find what state it was registered in, and go from there

Try www.carfax.com The service will cost about $20, and if you have the same results as I did it might not even go back that far. Of the 5 thirdgens I've run only 2 had complete histories, and 2 others were incorrect. If you take some time you should be able to find a free trial link that will give you the same information for free. Also around here anyway, all the dealerships have carfax available to check trade ins and whatnot, they'd probably let you search for your cars VIN.
Try searching the boards here and at nethirdgen.org with the search feature, just type in Free carfax and you should be able to find a link.
