headliner fabric is called what by old ladies?

hey folks, first off i did search multiple times and have read a lot of great threads but one question still lingers...

when i go to Jo-Anns fabric store, and i want to buy "headliner" fabric, what do i ask the little old cute lady for? Each time i've gone and ask for headliner they give me a weird look and tell me i can use any fabric for a headliner (on a bed)... when i tell them automotive they say they dont carry that.

soooo... is there a particular term for it, or am i on my own? lol

I dont think you'll find it in a Rag Shop type of store. You need to go to a place that does automotive upholdstery.

Hope this helps.

must just be the stores a person goes to. I went in and asked at a jo-ann's and they shows me a huge shelve full of automotove apolstry fabrics.. anything from seats to headliners to other stuf.. not sure how big the store you went into was. but the local one here is about 6000sqr feet... pretty decent sized.

I buy all my headliner fabric from jo-ann's. Every store I have seen sells it in the back on huge rolls. I have actually ran into one person that knew what it was called but didn't know how it was used!

just call it the black material with grey foam backing... they should understand, if they dont go to the rack with the vinyl on it and you should find it there.
