How much do 1982 Z-28s weigh?
I was comparing thirdgens to different cars in regards to weight on Autotrader, and they listed the curb weight of a 1982 Z-28 as 2974 lbs! Is this accurate? And if so, why are early 3rd gen Z-28s so light?

I took mine down to the truck stop and weighted it when it was new, with a full tank of gas. Not sure what the increments were but it was 3500 lbs.
Friends of mine shipped an '82 Z28 to Hawaii in the mid 1980s and back to the states several years later (they bought the car new near Chicago).
Empty of fuel, the shipping weight was 3240 lbs. They had to know the exact weight as they paid by the pound to transport it by ship.
The car has (they still own it) a 305 carbed engine, automatic transmission, power windows, air conditioning, and power steering.
I work on that car time to time and I can push it around my shop MUCH easier than my '88 GTA.

but then it also depend son options installed and such too, not including drivetrain combo and so forth
you can add alot of weight to a car with larger engine and top level interior and such
you would be surprised
thats why the iron duke ones are so much lighter- well one of the reasons
also seen rumors in the past about the s-series trucks being 2,000 some lbs in curb weight, but its not true either
not in stock factory form anyways
not very many factory built vehicles tend to have weighed much less than a ton and a half
but alot of these f bodies and a few other models did
in most cases
best way to know for sure is drive to your nearest sand and gravel pit to trash company or scrap metal place and weigh on their scale real quick
if they arent busy they will let ya weigh if you explain to them why you want to weigh real quick
it is how i found out that alot of the 67-72 gm trucks weigh upper 3k lbs like my 68 c-10 longfleet pickup, it was 3850lbs
and it was a fun truck, 355, th350, 3.73, originally 307ci SM326 on the column, trailing arm coils rear suspension,
miss it,
good luck

Back in 2001, I helped run the scales at Beech Bend Drag Strip (Bowling Green, Kentucky) during the NFRA competition there. That race made the old Popular Hot Rodding Magazine TV show.
I weighed several f-bodies that were racing. During an intermission, I rolled my 1992 GMC Sonoma (think S-10), shortbed, with 4-cyl, power steering, 5-speed, air conditioning, cruise, tilt, etc., across the scales and it weighed 2810 pounds with 3/4 tank of gas (20 gallon tank).
