My Grandpa just picked up an '88 Camaro. He said it has a 305 and an auto. He said it just says Camaro on the front fender and has factory ground effects. Third gens aren't my forte, so I'm not sure what car this is. Is this an RS, Z28, ?? I guess the car doesn't say RS or Z28 anywhere on it. He lives in Oregon so I can't just go look at the car.

Its an 88 SC,
From 82-87 the Sport coupe or SC was W/O ground effects, In 1987 Chevrolet started a pilot program in selected states with an "RS" package that had the base engine like the SC but got the ground effects package like the Z28. In 1988 ALL Camaros got the ground effects, but they were still called an SC, again there were some test markets with an RS. In 1989 & 1990 and there were only 2 trim levels the Rally Sport (RS) and the Z28/IROC-Z. In 1991-1992 the IROC name was droped and was again designated the Z28. Basically you could state that there were no Plain Camaros made from 89 - 92, there was only Camaro RS and the Camaro Z28 or IROC.

The wheels are usually the classic 5 spoke wheels found on the earlier Z28, but they have "Camaro" on the center cap. I believe this was a one year thing as well. A unique trait of some of the 88 Camaros is a one year only wing similar to the ones found on the Firebird, The wing is like a short style high-rise wing of the 91-92 Z28's...

Hope that helps. Probably too much info.

I bought an 88 camaro with the same thing.....ground effects, t-tops, rims, wing, power windows, but it had a 2.8 v6. I gave it to my mother about 2 years ago. The other day my brother and I where talking about it woundering what it was because I have never seen a plane camaro with ground effects, and certinally not a v6 with ground effect that wasn't a rs. Thanks for clearing that up.
