1982 vin # question
my 82's vin ends with L511961
would this mean its the 511961 off the assembly line which I doubt or would it be the 11961 off the assembly line

11,961th off the line at that plant yes
mine is 567676
67,676th off the line
yours was built way earlier than mine
the 5 is just a number
they started the sequential unit numbers with many different numbers, sometimes a few in a year
i dont know why, i never fully understood it
while i am on here and since you have 82 t/a also i want know what was your original drivetrain and axle ratio
are you WS6 or WS7
i am keeping a file of 82 t/a original drivetrain and axle combos for my own personal curiousity
i may start a thread asking for all original 82 trans am combos that i can get
thanks

Check the drivers side door, What is the month and year on the tag?
THe Flat hood was used in 1982 on SOME Trans Ams as rumor has it there was a shortage. I believe it may have been due to the Aluminum hood stamping and GM having a hard time getting good parts. Thats why I believe they went to all steel later on. Just an educated guess at this point.

yes I changed it all, why you ask simple its my car and I love the power that it has now which when I first bought it well it was the most gutless car I have ever driven aside from my escort. I highly doubt it will hurt the cars value anyways basically everything under the hood now looks like a 1990 is all, better fuel economy, better driveability, cleaner looks under the hood without the million vacumn lines. And best of all it fires right up in the morning without pumping the gas pedal 10 times.

Yes the car originally had a flat hood. I've heard in the early 82 run the cfi cars only got the power buldge hood while the LG-4 cars got the flat ones while mid year they all got the power bulge hood. I still have the original build sheet and it shows the car originally never had the power bulge hood was a option code for that hood.

I will post that tomorrow

oh, fast 68, since you are doing that collection of info, I know I gave you my info before, but I may have forgotten to mention: my car is(was?) a WS6 with the 4 wheel discs, etc.

I made a error, my gear ratio wasn't 3.08 the car originally was a 3.23. Also you asked if it was a ws-6 or ws-7 none of those are listed on my build sheet. However it does list ws-4.
I will try and scan the build sheet
