Car: 84 Firebird: F41, Pwr, Instr Pkg
Engine: LC1 (V6 2.8L, 280k mi)
Transmission: MD8 (700R4)
Axle/Gears: GU5 (3.23)
1984 2.8L V6s: LL1 "CodeL" vs LC1 "Code1" ?

Nobody on the V6 forum seemed to know anything about this. THought I'd try posting here to see if the anyone has any insights into these two engine options... thanks

Any good insights or details as to differences (or how to recognize)
these two 2.8L V6s?

All I know or have gathered is (for 84 Firebird):

LC1 "Code1" 8.4:1, 107hp, 145 ft/lbs, R43CTS plugs

LL1 "CodeL" 8.9:1, 125hp, ??? ft/lbs, R42CTS plugs

They can be differentiated by the 8th digit on the VIN but beyond that,
don't know much about their differences, internally or externally...

Why the cooler plugs on the LL1 and would the LC1 benefit from the same plugs. E.g. would that be a better heat range perhaps for
the LC1 as well?

Well i think i have the LC1 in my 84', theres not too much power of course but i never heard of the other 2.8l before. But i notice it has alot of power then most of the 2.8l's, so mabye i have an LL1?

I'm not sure if this answers your question. There were two different 2.8L engines in 1984. One was the standard motor and the other was considered as a H.O. version. Higher compression...more horespower.

I had a 1984 S/E firebird a few years ago. I went to buy plugs for it and the tech asked if I had the standard or the H.O. version.

Just my .02 cents worth.

In 83’ Pontiac introduced the H.O. V6, (LL1) for the S/E. The low output V6 (LC1) was only available in the base firebird. They have different heads, among other things, so simply changing spark plugs won’t give you any change in power.

Junk? Can you go into a little more detail, how do you define junk? Your post is lacking content and implying I’m call them junk, which I’m not.

The 4 firebirds I’ve had with V6’s worked rather well. They always started, even when I ran one of them without oil (side note: if you change your valve cover gaskets make sure the valve cover bolts are tight when you’re done), it got me home.
