Question on C&C T-Tops

I was thinking the other day (My mind likes to wander ), Did Cars & Concepts use anything for storing the t-tops in cars that they installed them in?

Did they put in mounts and a bag like the factory? Or did people just have to put them in the trunk well, back seat or storage area over the gas tank?

Pic of factory mounts:

No, neither of the two cars I have that has C&C tops have the factory mounts. The tops sit in the well, and some companies put a strap bolted to both sides of the well to hold them from flopping around.

I really hate to bust your bubble, but the C&C tops when installed correctly sealed better than the stock tops that were in the cars. My '86 model didn't leak a drop when it was on the road until last year when it was totalled and it still had the same weatherstripping and my '87 doesn't leak either.

Yeah,I had an 87 GTA with C&C t-tops and it was the only one of the many transams I've had that didn't leak. They were awfully thin and fragile though and always made me nervous. If you ever lost or broke one of them you could have a real problem tracking down some new ones. Not to mention trying to get seals or new parts.

TA Creations has used C&C tops, and the seals you can buy at the Sunroof doctor.

LOL, yeah....they may not leak when "installed correctly", but look at them! No thanks. I had an 88 TA with that C&C crap on it, I converted it back to a hardtop

What's wrong with the way they look? If they didn't have the trim pieces on the outside, it wouldn't look like aftermarket tops.

The gap between the front of the t-tops and the windshield is way wrong. And the way they look on the inside of the car is just garbage.

The way mine was done they looks exactly like factory on the inside, the plastic trim matches up to the a-piller and b-piller trim and looks very factory looking, only difference is mine uses an hardtop overhead console and I have full size sunvisors that aren't bent into a curve like most of the t-top visors are where they're shorter than the standard visors.

I have been searching and I know this is an old thread but I just bought an 89 RS Tuesday and it has C&C tops. It also has two t-top bags and a buckle system installed in the hatch well that looks like it was professionaly installed by C&C.

Re: Question on C&C T-Tops
I've got a set of bags too. 1 For each Top. The 2 C&C cars I've had had no other provisions for storage other than the bags. If they did originally install something - it was removed before I got those 2 cars.

----------
P.S. It seems like all the hardtop equipment was re-used. Factory "B'" pillar trim, Factory "A" pillar trim ("trimmed" to fit ), Hardtop headliner, ("trimmed" to fit ), Hardtop sunvisors, Hardtop roof console, ect.

Re: Question on C&C T-Tops
I honestly think that the CNC t-tops were better engineered. They might not look as good, but with the water channel, and the tight sealing weatherstripping, it's very well thought out. I have a set on my 90 formula never leaked when I drove it (except when I blasted it with hose water). My GM t-tops on my '89 GTA still leak after I fiberglassed/painted the t-bar, and used silicone sealant on all the weather stripping and they still leak here and there.

Re: Question on C&C T-Tops
Hi I have a 1991 GTA with C & C tops I think they look good. They are a little loose but, I keep them locked. My GTA had the buckles in the well also but, I have them in a GM bag with my CD changer & amp in the well they stay stable.

All I have are the thin vinyl bags that came with the car, looks like I need to get me a real t-top bag.

Re: Question on C&C T-Tops
Can anyone tell me if the GM factory tops have anything printed on that identifies them as original GM parts?

Re: Question on C&C T-Tops
PPG or LOF... Possibly others. nothing on them states GM, just like the rest of the windows.

Re: Question on C&C T-Tops
I have to think back..way back..but I ran a C&C shop for several years back in the late 80's-early 90's went to michigan to be be factory trained and certifyed in t-top/sunroofs, I remember installing, servicing many brands of sunroofs, t-tops and the C&C units were very good if installed right..like any thing else....saw bad installs come in to our shop done who knows where and were a nightmare !! we had the large jacks to put in the door jambs during the install to keep the measurments right, and you had to keep measuring to make sure nothing moved. Also I remember the t-top seals were much cheaper than the GM ones, which we also serviced. C&C did a lot of t-top installs for GM on new cars, so there were a lot of cars on the lots with their tops as well, C&C did some neat stuff, aerocoupe monte carlo's, mustang convertibles were all done by them....for what it's worth, Rob
